28th Street

28th Street, a venerable conduit in Line One, is a major thoroughfare of Crating. It runs from one of the off ramps in the East Freeway Mess, through the shopping district, and winds along until it merges with the terminal parking at the Kentwood Interdimensional Airport.
With Mall 28, Lotta Box, and any number of smaller plazas, nondescript eateries and car dealerships, 28th Street provides plenty of shiny objects with which to amuse the Teeming Masses and is known throughout the Multiverse for some of the finest traffic jams to be found in any dimension.

ALTERATIONS

It would be impossible to list all of the alterations to 28th Street since its inception. Suffice it to say that throughout recorded history, there hasn't been a period of more than eleven minutes without the appearance of a new construction project along this route.

HISTORY

Legend has it that 28th Street began as a dirt track leading from Morbinary's first kiosk in the newly formed 'Node to the snarled knot of shipping portals around which Mall 28 was constructed. While this has never been confirmed, retail shops do seem to spring up in Morbinary's wake wherever he travels, so it stands to reason that the preponderance of hand-to-hand commerce centers along 28th Street could very well have been the natural evolution of a route along which he traveled regularly.

TOURISM

28th Street itself is only an incidental tourist trap, as most people come for the shops, not the street. However...

  • An ancient covered wagon is stuck in a massive petrified rut at the corner of 28th and Blementh. Archaeologists believe this to have been the cause (and likely sole participant) of the first of many traffic jams along this ancient highway. It is said that making rude gestures and shouting obscenities at the wagon as one drives by is a mystical panacea against traffic delays.

  •
  • This is one of the main routes of the annual Festival of Potholes, so drivers are cautioned to be aware of witless celebrants as well as sudden gaping chasms in the asphalt.

  •
  • Street vendors and sign twirlers can become aggressive. Do not make eye contact.

  •
  • Warning: Flappy Dancers are not obligated to stay in their tethers. Drivers should be aware that Dreamers in the midst of nightmares involving these creatures have the right-of-way.
  • Type:
    Road / Main Highway
