Tyvalin

I feel the draw back to this place. I have never been here before, and yet visions of it have lined my dreams. My family were kept in the hotlands, I was the only one to survive. I spent a century in hiding, surviving. Some survivors came and went, all types of people passed me by, I was paralyzed with fear. But then the dreams started. Now I see this glorious city in front of me and I can't help but smile.
I'm finally in a place that I can actually live and survive. I'm home.
— Journal of Dagen Harkrock, a Dark Elf who arrived in 104 AR
Tyvalin, known as the Home of Dreamers, is the capital city of the Dolvalyn Sovereignty. It is built on the ruins of Terranix, the base of The Deceiver Gods during The Shatter.
There are some in the Ossalimarian Empire who still call the city by the ruin's full name "Terranix Vnorr", or Place of Deception in a lost ancient tongue.

Description

Tyvalin is a near metropolis in the world, standing as one of the largest cities due to its expansive nature over the many centuries. The city is lit by a large selection of arcane lanterns that flow different chromatic shades depending on the oil provided to them. At night the city sparkles in a distance, a beacon home for those who heed its call.
The buildings in Tyvalin are made of primarily dark stone and metal that are from the region around the city, though over recent years, they have begun including lumber from the Passadite Tree as a core part of creating a warmth within each home. Some of the houses are repurposed materials or sections of buildings from the ruins of Terranix, however many of these are adapted to not be fully reminiscent of the city that once was.
The newer districts of the city are seemingly less cohesive than the older parts of the city. This has occured due to a large increase in the population of the city over the years, necessitating faster buildings than careful planning of delicately placed streets. Walls have been placed between many of the districts, with all except the central three running out in rings from the city centre. The walls are approximately 15 feet high, allowing guards to walk the length of the walls to ensure safe protection for the whole city. every few miles a watchtower is posted to increase greater protection.
The ruins of Terranix contain a large underground network of tunnels and subterrainean buildings that were designed to contain great numbers of people. Some of these have been reclaimed by Tyvalin to use as needed. While discussions have been held regarding using them for residential space, most often the argument has come up that should be used for arcane experimentation to keep it away from the residents of the city.

Districts

Mallethastry

The core of the city, the Mallethastry is the home of the royal court and nobility of Tyvalin. Surrounded on all sides by walls, the Mallethastry is also the smallest district of the city. It has a number of holy sites dedicated to the patron deity of the Sovereignty, which makes it a core location for religious ceremonies in the city. Many of the flags in the Mallethastry are in a black and purple colour to represent Den Dolvalyn who have been the ruling house since the Sovereignty's foundation.
At the centre of the Mallethastry is its namesake, the Mallethastry Beacon. A large flame that is maintained by Ignistra, flame keepers who are specially chosen devout followers of the Dream Lord. It is said that the flames invoke a calming spirit in any Dark Elf that witnesses it. Labrivas is said to have found the spark that started the flame in one of her communions with the Dream Lord, wishing for a way to bring all those who wish home.
The other major building in the district is the Imperius Citdael, built to the specifications of Labrivas Dolvalyn herself, the Imperius Citadel has long been home to the royal family. Made of basalt, the citadel at first seems to blend in with the rest of the buildings around the city, until its beautiful accents of purple glint across the building, their colours brightened by the presence of magical lights, reflecting them into the city skyline.

Nightspires

Built to the west of the central city, Nightspires was designed to originally house the majority of the residential buildings. It is also where the majority of buildings reclaimed from Terranix are located, with several of the building designs rising from the ruins. It was intricately planned to ensure a large number of houses could fit within the district, while also ensuring that there was adequate space for the different family units across the district.
There are some larger manor houses in the Nightspires, homes for the powerful Dens of the Sovereignty. Each of these homes is given adequate grounds and their own personal walls to keep the different flora from the Den's homes contained. Each Den also is permitted to fly banners of their den on the buildings, as if it were their own personal palace.
There are some commercial elements to the district, particularly smaller shops focused on general needs. However, there are two shops dedicated to Den Hathlaw and Den Rhysarrin, each of whom specialise in forging and smithing, with the dens having a focus on weapons and armor respectively. These shops are considered extensions of the Den's estates within the district.

Mistshire

The eastern district from the original city, Mistshire was designed to mostly cater to the commercial and religious needs of the city. There are a number of shops that are combined together into squares and plazas, originally each were designed to have a different purpose, but over the centuries different shops have taken up these places, and bazars of temporary stalls have filled the squares, giving wide access to a vast number of different merchandise for all.
The second largest temple dedicated to The Dream Lord is based in the Mistshire. While the Mallethastry is used for the largest holy ceremonies, the Slumber's Cast is commonly used by those who worship the deity on a daily basis, staffed by those are devout in their worship. Nearby, there are shrines dedicated to The Heraldic Gods, other Dual Idols, and the Guardian Dragons. Providing a place of worship for all.
The Braizer Keep is based in Mistshire, and acts as the home for the Psyketh Blades and their specialist arcane unit the Ultren-Varixh. The Braizier Keep also contains one of the two entrances down to the ruins of Terranix, and the only one publically accesible. Leading to many in the Psyketh Blades and Ultren-Varixh training in the underground tunnels.

Tarrynlode

The Tarrynlode comprises the first layer out from the original city. Primarily this district is a residential area, allowing for a larger contingent of people to live within the city. Most of the buildings here are brand new, using some reclaimed materials, but mostly built directly from the stone and metal from the lands.
The Tarrynlode also extends out to the coast and as such contains the Juvellis Docks, one of the biggest trade areas within the world. The Docs are open most days of the year, taking only Ocean's Call off for the various sailors visiting. The Docks have also become a prominent location for those wishing to drink and experience revelrous celebrations.
The walls that surround the Tarrynlode were built slightly taller than the interior walls as it travels in a larger distance than other walls. Additionally, connecting to two larger mountains on either side, the walls were designed with larger forts inhabited by members of the Psyketh Blades and Ultren-Varixh on these corners.

Filladustra

Filladustra is the lands that border the walls of Tarrynlode and are still within the city reaches of Tyvalin. The majority of buildings here are residential and agricultural in nature. Ranches, farms, and stables are all contained within the limits of the Filladustra, supplying the city in the short term with a vast amount of food, creatures, and places to store such things until it needed.
Rathfer Hall is the largest building in Filladustra, it is the guild hall for the agricultural collective to attend. It is overseen by the protectorate of the Filladustra, a guild employed security force known as Raider's Hands. The members of this protection force use the Hall as their base of operations. They use their force to ensure that property disputes find a quick end, but also to hunt down predators, theives, and criminals that find themselves further out from the city limits, due to their skills tracking and hunting.

History

Founding and Origins

In the wake of The Parting, the magic holding the once prominent bases for different divinities fell. By the start of 1 AR, the city known as Terranix was completely and utterly destroyed. Seen as the bastion of the Great Deceiver and the forces he amassed with the other Deceiver Gods. By razing it to the ground, only the heartiest of buildings remained.
By 19 AR, Labrivas Dolvalyn and her den were annointed the ruling house of the new free nation that would take up hold in this part of the continent, having saved most people from the death and destruction that lined the regions. Labrivas, now Queen declared a capital city should be built. She gathered several distinguished advisors from around the realm to act as counsel on where the city should be built.
It was decided by 23 AR that the nation would attempt to cover the scars of The Shatter by building their home over the ruins of Terranix, creating hope where once was devastation. Labrivas was not involved in the creation of the city, as she spent her time learning more about the people of her new Sovereignty, leaving the council to start building the city. Her one guidance was that the city should be "home, whatever that is".
By 67 AR, houses were being filled with the families who helped to build the city, with it formally being founded by Labrivas in 82 AR, when the initial three districts were built. A place of learning, hope, and home. Not long after this, Labrivas moved into her perminant home, the Imperius Citadel.

A Home for All

Over the first two centuries, the city expanded, filling its houses and expanding slowly outwards with some smaller encampments on the outreaches of the city. Eventually it was declared that a new district would be formed, expanding out from the central three. This district would become the foundation for Tarrynlode, though intiially it was just additional protection for a selection of small hamlets around the city.
By 396 AR, a small docks started to appear near the coast, a path created back to the city centre. a mere 3 miles from the city walls. This was also adobpted by the city and given its name for the original founder of the docks. Dharnes Juvellis. It became a good source of trade for the city of Tyvalin.
After a great communion with the Dream Lord in 401 AR, Labrivas Dolvalyn gathered the embers that would become the Mallethastry Beacon through the guide of this communion. She made a proclamation as she created the Beacon, expansion of the city, and acceptance of those in need. Tylavin would become a home for all, dreamers and those who wish for more. Expansion continued for many years, creating the formal districts of Tarrynlode and Filladustra, and expanding the reaches of the city further into the tunnel network that was once a part of Terranix.

War Arrives

At the end of The Reign of Bornate, from 385 AR, people from across the continent started flocking into the Sovereignty. These refugees were escaping from the power of the Bornassi, as he was becoming more aggressive against his people. A steady flow of people appeared over the next 15 years, until the Ruby Rebellion began. Some joined the fighting, others stayed in the Sovereignty and Tyvalin even after the rebellion began and ended.
There was some level of conflict between the first leaders of the Empire and the Sovereignty, but this changed when Queen Ashlan Ossalimar the Great visited Tyvalin in 592 AR. She was nothing but gracious and forged a good relationship between the two nations. The agreements were in place to share knowledge and trade, which was hoped to continue with each ruler of the Empire coming to visit.
However from the day she died in 613 AR, relationship between the two nations slowly eroded. The newly crowned King Teyvon Ossalimar chose to not continue the open raltionship that was agreed by his mother. Though he did vist Tyvalin for a time on a royal visit.
The next Ossalimarian Royal Family member to visit Tyvalin wasn't until Prince Leiland Ossalimar visited in 704 AR, mere months after his father's coronation. He visited the city as a guide under his own mission of peace between the two nations. A group fo radical cultists found the Prince and slaughtered hinm in a ritual. The message informing King Leivan Ossalimar of his suon's death caused a hidden conflict between the Sovereignty and Empire that still carries on, The Shrouded War.
