Teleson'Dor

I have heard tale of this place, a lake like a mirror. Yet, there seems to be a somberness to its presence, like something is forever mourning at its depths. I bow my head and kiss the coin as I let it skip and sink into the depth. Hopefully I have recieved the blessing of the water's spirits, rather than their curse. Hopefully the boat to its island will be gentle.
— Writings of Erethas the Bard
Teleson'Dor is a lake in the central part of The Gallason Reach known for its reported connections with two powerful water spirits. They are said to live within the lake's depths and provide aid or harm to those who cross their path.

Description

Shaped like a bean, the lake Teleson'Dor is seemingly a spring that has grown into a larger lake over time. There is no clear flow of water to or from the lake, with its waters being strangely still. This stillness resonates over the whole water being extremely reflective, especially in comparison to other water ways.
Based in the centre of the lake is an island that has been called the Emerald Grove, or Elest-varh. The island is no more than 20 miles in any direction, leading many to try and explore its depths. People have noted that there are smaller islands, less than a mile wide that are known to float around and above the lake, leading to their name as the Emerald Heights, or Elest-narsh.

History

When the first maps were drawn after The Parting, there were no indications of a lake where Teleson'Dor stands now. It was instead a verdant valley of rolling fields. According to the first map drawn in 92 AR, there was a small village known as Torna in the valley.
By 204 AR, Teleson'Dor had started to spring up, a small lake in the place where the valley had once been, small pieces of land crossing its borders. The remnants of Torna had been lost in its depths. Several scholars were unsure what caused the sudden apparation of a lake, other than attributing it to the land eroding away and revealing a hidden spring.
By 409 AR, the lake reached its current height. It seemingly stopped still on that day, as the surface of the lake became a mirror, stilled water cast over it. During this time, it is believed that the two spirits Teleson and Dor'nassin visited an admirer of the lake, creating the legend of their blessings and curses for centuries to come.
The encounter with Teleson and Dor'nassin became mythologized and by 703 AR, was memorialized on a small statue near the northern point of the lake. This is when the lake was named Teleson'Dor, having previously been known as the Lake of Mirrors due to its shined surface.

The Spirits

Teleson and Dor'nassin are believed to be ancient water spirits that reside in the depths of the lake. The two spirits are known to take tributes from those who wish to obtain a favor from them, whether as payment for crossing the lake, or as a good tiding before an adventure. Those who wish to obtain their favor are told to throw a gold coin into the lake as far as they can, letting it sink down to the depths. Usually the effects of the spirits are felt within a day of the offering.
In fact, Teleson and Dor'nassin are inhabitants of the Aquaris Inner Foci, both noble elementals that will take the coin as payment to offer their blessing through the planar rift in the bottom of the lake. Sometimes, they are in a mood to trick those around them, on these days, the two of them combine their knowledge to bring misfortune to the individual, whether by capsizing their boat on the lake, or sending some of their followers to disrupt a delicate negotiation.
Teleson and Dor'nassin first became aware of the region that would become their lake, when they were summoned by the people of Torna, specifically a young child, who was trying to summon water in the village well because their mother was sick. This opened a tear to the Aquaris Inner Foci that didn't stop pouring out until the two noble water elementals steadied the flow using their own magic.
