Kira Ryefall (kai'ra raɪ'fɔl)

The first thing I noticed was that their crystaline hair glowed in the dim, blue light. It was a strange sight to see the maroon color contrasted and showing the cold light of the Coralstone lantern. They must have noticed my staring as the turquoise brow seemed to furrow in my direction. In an instant, a smile of opalescent teeth gleamed in my direction and their hands dug deep into the leather coat that lined their frame. I knew, even then, that despite our unusual circumstances, we would be close friends.
— Mar'tuk's first meeting with Ryefall

Kira Ryefall commonly known as Ryefall is an elementran occultist in Qil'Sora City. They currently are a patient in the Harlane Institute and were formerly a member of the duo known as The Blood Bonded along with Mar'tuk. They are currently slated to appear within the upcoming novel Project Blood set after the events which led to their imprisonment within the Institute.

Description

Appearance

Standing 6' 2", Ryefall is not the smallest of creatures, though despite their height, the most obvious aspect of their physique is their bright blue skin that seems to glow like a crystal. Its not the only element of their ground-like nature that is continued through their form.   On their head stands flecks of a deep marroon gemstone that forms what feels and acts like hairs upon their head. Though there exist many forms of Coralstone, the specific style that form on Ryefall's head glows while they are utilising their strange and unique form of magic, not just the maroon color that they originate as, but a wide selection of colors across the spectrum.   Often Ryefall can be found wearing a collection of outfits that are considered by many to be 'garish' and 'unfitting' within most reams of society. Regardless of the colourful tunic being worn and the dyed leathers they use as a set of fashioned trousers, they are always seen wearing two specific items of clothing.   A black leather jacket with painted words on the back of the jacket. The words written are in an ancient script similar to Runic but from a tongue that only the primordial creatures can understand. According to Ryefall the words translate approximately to "The earth and stone is just rock", however a scholar confirmed to Mar'tuk that this is not what the words say   The second item is a purple fabric sash that Ryefall often wears around their waist. The sash seems to be gilded with a strange gold material that seems to move similar to a liquid, shifting and flowing as the fabric ripples. Ryefall has claimed several times that this sash was a gift from a powerful noble after the completion of a job, but the claim has never been truly confirmed.

Personality

Those who have become close to Ryefall over the years have a large variety of experiences with their personality primarily due to the fact their nature has changed drastically over the years. Mar'tuk has experienced a wide variety of different "variants" of Ryefall over the course of their long friendship, particularly through their experiences with the Ichorites. Written below is one such experience:
Something seemed off, even in their most happy state. I still don't understand what the full impact of the events they experienced were, most of the changes were small grumbles, states of quiet, and contemplation. However, It wasn't until the night we entered the Blossoming Grove that I even considered the emotional impact that recent events had upon them. While our night was quiet to start, a raucous party of so called "adventurers" entered the tavern for the evening. Within their party was a human that towered over the two of us and carried a large greataxe at their side. That didn't defend them from the ruthless attacks of Ryefall. They wailed upon the poor barbarian before they even had a chance to respond. Let's say that was the last time we were given entry to the Blossoming Grove.

Biography

Born as Torris Falneer on 1st Shovenu 718 AR, they were the eldest son of a noble and prominent family within a cult of blood alkhemists. This led to a series of strange and unusual experiments that were taken out on Torris as a child. They don't often speak about this time of their lives, the one moment they remember and mention most is the time their parents and them travelled out to a small picnic in a forest. When asked, they described this as "the last great moment I spent with my family".   By 731 AR, the cult disappeared without a trace and Ryefall doesn't speak about the time they spent with them. They do, however, discuss that at one point their form was fleshy and the time that they left the cult was the event that they called "the solidification". Its always important to Ryefall that they were not defined as just a member of this cult, but a person. It was also these moments that hardened them into a punk-like figure that pushes much of the world's norms to their furthest extents.   In 738 AR, Ryefall first met Mar'tuk in Qil'Sora City, this was also the first time that someone was able to get close to Ryefall enough to break their hard shell, in some cases literally. Over the course of the next few years, the duo worked together to help figure out elements of both of their histories. This also led to the unfortunate collision between Ryefall and the Ichorites which drastically changed Ryefall until they were saved by Mar'tuk and their elderly mentor Yandir.   Under the torture of the Ichorites, Ryefall was held in Bloodthorn Keep and collared with a Blenith Collar. The collar forced the innate magical energy to redirect out from their form and into the abilities of a chosen master. Under the invocation of this magic Ryefall became a broken husk of a figure. In the rare moments that they talk about the instance, Kira describes their soul as being ripped out from their form and taken by this individual. The specific master that was assigned to control Ryefall attempted to become their friend first, that was until they showed their true nature and aggression. This figure, known only as "Qran", violently beat Ryefall for several hours on end using both physical and emotional torture purely through the use of magic that was taken directly from Ryefall's form. By the time they were released, almost all of the innate potential that Ryefall possessed had been taken and used to expand the limits of Qran's magical prowess.   After they were released from their capture, Ryefall seemed to recover extremely quickly. This ended up being a facade and in fact, Ryefall's aggression against the system became a general aggression against the world and any slight that was forced against them. There were several instances where Ryefall became involved with intense physical and magical conflicts that almost always ended in the person they were fighting needing intervention from divine healing. Thankfully, Mar'tuk was usually nearby to help reduce the impact of their acts. After Ryefall accidentally went too far and killed another individual, it was decided by Mar'tuk, Yandir and the captain of the city guard that Ryefall would be commited to , a hospice dedicated to helping those with intense trauma and also a place where Ryefall could be kept safely away from others.   As of 744 AR, Ryefall has separated from Mar'tuk and resides inthe Harlane Institute. Their stay is being funded by Yandir who feels pity to the state that Ryefall entered after their torture. Mar'tuk occassionally visits them to help them gather more of their memories prior to their interaction with the Ichorites. Ryefall spends most of their days acting crazed by their time, whilst spending most of their nights forging a different path and several pacts and agreements with beings and creatures that can help them to regrenerate their lost magical potential. The extent to which this has crazed their mind is unknown.

Relationships

Mar'tuk

Of all people, Mar'tuk is as close as Ryefall has to family. For the past 6 years Mar'tuk and Ryefall have been basically inseparable. Within Qil'Sora City some have known them as the "Blood Bonded". This title goes to show just how close the two have become over the last few years. The two first met in the course of a delving contest where the two were thrust together to work against a few others to find a treasure deep within a cavern system. The duo were successful in finding the treasure and this moment started the beginning of a powerful friendship that would blossom until Ryefall's torture at the hands of the Ichorites.   More recently, the Blood Bonded have become distant due to the state of disarray that Ryefall has entered, particularly as they seem to blame Mar'tuk for their torture, especially with Mar'tuk's past with the Ichroites, which he denies entirely. As of 744 AR, the two speak infrequently with many of their conversations devolving into aggressive sparring sessions between the two, usually having to be broken up by helpers within the sanitorium. The last time they spoke, the two cast spells at each other and Ryefall was incapacitated due to overuse of their magical potential, which has become severly drained.

Yandir

Yandir acted as a mentor to both Mar'tuk and Ryefall. For several years, she gave them both shelter among the bustle of Qil'Sora City above her tea shop. Despite their usual nature of aggression against the system and blasé nature, Ryefall was always kind to Yandir and even worked within the tea shop at times. It was after three years of staying with her that both discovered Yandir's secret, she was once a member of the monastic orders, an ancient tradition of marital prowess and spiritual connection. Her specific order focused on keeping peace between people regardless of their natures towards each other, she was a member of the Calming Lotus, an ancient order who worked alongside those with the most troubling histories.

That cover art is spectacular! I love the glow in the dark aspect of Ryefall. Very intriguing. Nicely written.
