Brau Daros

The ancient writings talk of how the light could be seen for miles. A cereulean ember that felt warm, even when not in its direct presence. I won't forget the day I found out it had fallen.

We were guided by the Ancient Light and all that they meant. When they fell, it broke several among our people. It killed just as many. An explosion that rippled across the continent and drew half of it to scorching arcane heat. They say that was when the tower fell. The light went out, never to be found again.

I hope one day to find the flame and return it to call people home once again.

Brau Daros, also known as the Lantern's Home, was a temple dedicated to Azrovil before his mind turned to madness. Several times, people have tried to convert the ruins to a new temple for Boldir and Lyr'ian, with no success due to a deep darkness that has remained hidden.

Description

Once a beautiful lighthouse in the middle of the jungle, Brau Daros was said to be home to the Emberspark Lantern, a magical artifact linked with Azrovil that was a beacon for the Light Elven people as they first entered the jungles. The tower stood above the treetops, and the light called people to it from miles around.

It is a shadow of its former self, the lighthouse has crumbled to its stone foundation, barely above the first level of its interior. However, the region below that comprised a significant portion of the temple throughout the years still remains. It is unknown if the Lantern still resides on the grounds, or if it was taken at some point during The Shatter.

The interior still has holy symbols of Azrovil, but there are at least two destroyed holy symbols of Boldir and Lyr'ian, followers of whom had attempted to reclaim and at points, rebuild Brau Daros to what it once was.

Pre-Shatter

Brau Daros was said to be created by a champion of Azrovil in the wake of The Rift. They claimed it was a result of a communion with the god, guiding them to a place for the Elvish followers that had now emerged from the Fae Lands.

After 3 years of construction, the tower was built, with the Emberspark Lantern places at its apex. It is said that Azrovil themselves placed the ember into the Lantern. At that point, Elves on the continent of Kyradon found themselves drawn to the ancient flame. A place they could call home deep in the Jungles.

There are ancient writings that discuss Brau Daros as a home for those seeking mercy for the life they had lived. Some saying that a campus of divine repentance, giving those who wished a chance of forgiveness, regardless of the percieved slights he committed. This led to the formation of a group dedicated to helping guide people to this new peace of mind.

The Shatter

Brau Daros stood for the first few centuries of The Shatter, acting as a beacon and sanctuary for those caught up in the fighting in the southern reaches of the continent. The buildings below the tower were homes for refugees escaping from the dark shadows that were appearing.

During the Fall to the Void, the Emberspark Lantern was blown out. The wave of energy that emanated from the divine explosion caused a crack in the tower, a shift that caused parts of Brau Daros to fall into the jungles for miles around. The crack of the tower was allegedly heard from miles around, an aftershock of the destructive wave that came before.

Age of Reclamation

The ruins of Brau Daros were a site of great importance of the Light Elves, with several groups wishing to rediscover its location. In 392 AR, a group of Light Elven adventurers sent out from the burgeoning city of Casaviyâ. They found the temple in a state of complete ruin, the few walls that remained of the central tower were crumbling. The underground segments of the building were locked by powerful divine magic that blocked off access.

By 504 AR, a priestly group following Boldir tried to restart the path of redemption that once existed in the Brau Daros. Their goal was a gentle home of repentance, but instead a massacre took place, leaving three survivors who went into hiding, their names erased from the records. The blaze destroyed more of the temple's walls, leading it to the ruined state it currently remains in.

In 689 AR, a druid circle that followed Lyr'ian tried to use Brau Daros as their dwelling, incorporating its natural skylights as an observatory. By the turn of the 8th century, the circle had gone missing, but the underground region of the temple seemed to be unlocked, granting access, but seeping out a darkness and strange noises from its depths.

A Beacon of Hope

The light that stood at the top of Brau Daros was once described as the "Southern Star" because of its almost eternal blaze that was visible for miles out of the reach of the tower itself. This light was written about in several documents that are housed in Sovmora due to its divine nature, but the location of the actual lantern has remained a mystery, some records believing it may have been taken by those who were followers of the Ancient Light.

As the ember that kept the lantern ablaze was offered by Azrovil while they were still the Ancient Flame, that ember is considered to be one of the last remaining pieces of flame to originate from Azrovil's spark, before it turned to darkness. There is belief that the light kept away darkness and emboldened those around it with a hope and vigor that hasn't been seen since.

Dark Secrets

Most concern for Brau Daros is related the underground portions of the ruin that remain. With the last known people at the temple having unlocked the barrier downwards. Since that day, a mile around the ruin has been beset by a darkness that pours out from the temple. At first it was a light fog that obscured the area, the longer it has gone, the darker the region becomes, heavily obscured from all sight.

Then there is the dark creatures that have emerged from the depths. Animals that have been twisted by the power of darkness and madness. Tendrils, larger mouths, and lack of visible eyeballs have all been noted by the locals that reside within a few miles of the temple. These creatures are said to be linked directly with the power stemming from the underground regions.

Dethran Illdosh	He/Him	Champion of Azrovil. Dethran founded and developed Brau Daros into the temple of the Ancient Flame. When it was first constructed, Dethran was provided several clerics to help run the temple and continued to expand its reach into the ground, almost growing like a flame in reverse. It is unclear when Dethran left the temple, but they helped to establish the campus around the temple as a path of mercy before they stepped away.
Kelestar	They/Them	Fiendling Knight of Boldir. Respected across the realm for their great worship of Boldir, acting as a bastion of peace following an oath made to the god as a pact of redemption. Kelestar followed a calling to Brau Daros, aiming to restart the commune of redemption that had once been in its shadow. It worked for a number of years, with many people invited to stay in the encapment and follow a path of peace. 13 years into this mission, three among those that were receiving help slaughtered all of those within the camp, including Kelestar.
Marnasin Elsbrooke	She/Her	Half-Elven Archdruid. Marnasin was the leader of a group of druids known as the Starlight Wanderers, a circle dedicated to Lyr'ian and following the paths laid out for them by the stars. Marnasin and her fellow druids took over the site of Brau Daros because its ruins allowed them to peer more elegantly to the stars, and to reclaim the "Southern Star". Marnasin did not live as long as she was intended, her head having been found in 703 AR, separated from her body and placed upon the site of an ancient home near Brau Daros.
