Urkai Mine Settlement in NEW WORLD SAME TRIS | World Anvil

Urkai Mine

The Urkai Mine is the biggest iron mine in the kingdom and the most profitable resource for the Wavemakers and their crazy inventions. It has a far longer history than that, and was first started by an Unull minor chieftain to produce iron for smithing and weapon making to support their riding adventure, some 200 years ago. Since then it grew in size and export volume and whoever owns it must be, or instantly becomes a big figure in the kingdom's economic. But with high profitability also comes a high price. None of the owners ever lasted long, bunch of them went mad and needed to be locked out of the society for everyone's safety and many people believe that the place is cursed. But as long as it is making good money, it will not get closed down anytime soon it seems.   The mines are located at the northern part of the kingdom and has given a catapultic rise to the settlement of the same name. Majority of the populace is made out of artisans, metalworkers and miners, but thanks to the booming economy and rising interest into technological advancement, it is also a place for thinkers and scholars to gather and experiment with new and exciting inventions, trying to better the lives of the common people.   The entire mine is divided into 3 separate wings and 7 levels that are section off according to the depth of the tunnels and how rich the deposits in there are. The deeper you go the more the place tends to be... more haunted, let's say. There are rumours going around that the Unull nobility used to put people and servants they were dissatisfied with in here, locked them up and let them starve to death. From time to time, miners still go missing - some say it's the work of angry spirits, while the others thing they got hungry for abandoned treasures and wanted to enrich themselves beyond their normal salary. And because the mines reverted under the ownership of Inzu people again, some say that some of the lesser used tunnels have became a golden mine for smugglers to hide and transport forbidden goods through there to sell at underground markets near borders.   Overall, Urkai is a place with quickly rising popularity, but while the money might be good, not all the attention is. It is a barell of gunpowder waiting to explode...
