Appearance

Merfolk take on appearances properties of aquatic creatures, this usually mean fins, gills, webbing between fingers, sometimes extra limbs. They can come in a variety of colors, as well as range on the "Human to monster" ratio between both sides of the spectrum.
The main thing that separates a merfolk from a fae or dragon, is often the elven property of having pointed ears as well as aquatic traits.

Physique

Most merfolk if not all, are amphibious. This means they can breathe on land and water! They also gain the benefits of increased swimming speed, as well as heightened sight in darkness. Resistance against colder temperatures (Water gets cold, they're gonna need this.)

Habitats

Merfolk like living in places that have easy access to water and are not too dry. So oceans, lakes, rivers, underwater caves, etc.
They tend to have major trouble functioning in very hot and dry environments.

Diet

Merfolk are Omnivorous, but they won't hesitate to eat things like fish. It's a natural part of their life.
