Seek a new dawn, in Malkora!

Yaracia Maisig

"City used to be quite the destination, but you ought to see the way those guards' hands twitch over their weapons when us Northerners drop by."
Yaracia Maisig, known also as Yara, is the head of a trade family in the Savelan Northlands.

Pocket Populations

The Northlands are not known for their sprawling communities or grand settlements; most residents are scattered like seeds on the wind across small encampments or temporary towns that pick up almost as soon as they find themselves up and running. The few large settlements that do exist, however, function as tightly knit communities with strict leaders and tight resource management.   Yaracia is one of these settlement leaders, and she runs a tight ship.

Matron of the Caravans

Yaracia earned her place as leader of a small Northlands settlement after challenging and defeating the former leader before her, convinced she could do a far better job than they ever did — and she was right. Under Yaracia's leadership, the bandit camp of a settlement began to grow into a more functional community piece by piece.   With the settlement in her hands, she inherited all of its operations and the ranks of residents to manage. She was the one to kickstart the caravan network that now travels between her home and the city of Aurel, which has brought prosperity to her corner of the Northlands.

Family in the Northlands

Every leader has their own way of running their settlements, but Yaracia is fond of the familial angle. All those who live within her claim are her family, no blood relation required. From her kin by birth, to the latest recruits brought to the settlement, all are part of her family.   Strict as she is in her leadership, she endeavors to care for her own with everything she has. She does everything in her power to keep resources flowing, to keep mouths fed, and her growing family safe.
In the Northlands, resources are king. Keeping control of them makes you queen.

The Scatterlands
The Northlands' split and spread populations throughout the woods and stony hills have earned the Northlands an apt nickname: The Scatterlands.   Larger settlements will sometimes send scouts to survey the land for pockets of occupied camps or hideouts, both to keep others out of their claims, and to find potential recruits for work or residence back at their settlements.
No Contracts
What sets her apart from many other leaders of her type in the Northlands, is her willingness to let go. People come and go — Yaracia is no stranger to this notion.   All who contribute to the family are welcome in it. Likewise, they are welcome back if they take to the roads one day, but face a change of heart.

In their travel to Aurel, under cover of night, Gidren and Brynna encounter Yaracia and her caravan as each party travels in opposite directions down the semi-paved road. The engagement starts with high tension, but levels out enough that Yaracia offers Brynna insight into affairs at the city. The advice she passes to Brynna shakes Gidren, prompting Yaracia's departure from the scene. Likewise, the encounter left Brynna uncharacteristically raw — a subject they might broach only after a night's rest.
