Cryotath

It's all I've been looking for! It's incredible! Just look at the colors... it's absolutely mesmerizing. Quick, collect the ore and let's bounce. It's probably not too safe to stick around here.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Cryotath is a brittle metal known for its unique stair-stepped structure. Similar to the more common bismuth, cryotath is identifiable by an iridescent oxide tarnish. However, where bismuth tends to take on brighter yellows, pinks, and blues, cryotath more frequently is seen in rich greens, blues, and reds.

Geology & Geography

Cryotath is found primarily in Uris Braena's underground tunnels and mines, which are well-guarded by the residents who occupy them.   Very rarely is the ore found above ground, though it is not unheard of to find exposed ores in recently formed caves or damaged mountains.

History & Usage

Everyday use

This iridescent metal is well known for its value in artisan crafting and metalwork, though it is far too brittle for functional pieces such as jewelry. This metal can often be seen used in decorative filigrees, ornaments, and trims in high-end interior design, particularly in large cathedrals, city halls, or homes of the wealthy.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Cryotath is often used in the forging of Gorin ritual blades, which are built purely for their beauty and not their functionality. There is no specific metal attached to the tradition, but the iridescence makes the material extremely enticing, and the skill required to properly smith the metal into a desired shape is admirable by many.
