Cervid Revenant

The scenery of the forest was enough on its own to chill my bones to the marrow, but the sight which came to greet me in the clearing achieved the impossible task of chilling them further. It sat before me, watching patiently, as though it was expecting me to appear.   I dared not take a step closer. I didn't turn around, I simply backpedaled the way I came, watching the creature all the while. I never saw it move — part of me wonders, now, if it was even alive. Perhaps I let fear get the best of me?
— Traveler's recount from the forests of Ba'Logor
Cervid revenants are undead creatures of Ba'Logor which resemble deer melded with the environment of the region. Though universally feared, they are not known to pose any imminent threat to those who encounter them, unless provoked.

Silent Watchers

The forests of Ba'Logor are unnerving sights on their own, often cited as appearing "more dead than alive" by some travelers. The eerie quiet of the snow-covered trees and landforms is made more eerie still by the silent watchers known as cervid revenants.

Part of the Scenery

Though known to be living — or unliving — creatures, these revenants bear resemblance to large deer composed of twisted flesh, bone, and flora. Easily mistaken for features of the environment, these creatures are known to be incredibly passive unless provoked, resting almost as statues amidst the scenery.

Unnerving Gaze

Setting one's gaze upon a cervid revenant is intensely unnerving, a trait which deters most stray travelers from ever attempting to interact with the idle creatures.   Those who manage to push through this overwhelming sensation and proceed to approach and interact with the idle revenants often come to regret doing so, as they are greeted with horrific gutteral screams as the revenant shambles to a standing position.
Those who flee at this display are often spared, however, those who continue in provoking the creature will meet a gruesome fate. The latter has never been observed by any survivor willing to tell the tale.
Ever observant, some creatures simply exist to wait and to watch, but for what?
