Hand of the Caliphate

This is a rank held by many serving the Caliphate in any important function. It includes the very highest of the officer ranks among the Protectors of the Sun, the Grand Viziers of important cities, heads of any department of government, etc.
Hands are given their title because of what they do and their competence, something that often makes them feel more important than those of higher status, such as high nobles. And it's true that the Caliphate would likely grind to a halt earlier if this cast disappeared than if the nobles did, even if the structure around it would be more intact than if the reversed happened.
