Andreas Vaeltaja

Andreas Vaeltaja

Andreas Vaeltaja is most famous for leading the expedition that discovered the homeland of the Isa who had attacked the northern reaches of the settled lands 5 times in the past few centuries. He wasn't the first too try and trace where they came from and many had spent months journeying in the wastes but all had underestimated just how far they would have to travel.   He had grown up in the shadow of The Archive, the son of a Chronicler, he rebelled and went to join the Army instead of following in his families tradition of training at The Archive, this being during the fifth incursion and the threat to the south of the settled lands being the highest it had been for many years. After he was sent to the Northern Reaches, he soon became a skilled ranger spending most of his time away from the army tracking their foe. After the war concluded he stayed in the north as a ranger and developed a passion for exploring leading many small expeditions, before he faced the biggest challenge of his life.    On his successful expedition Vaeltaja prepared to be travelling for 2 years with an extensive caravan and too simply follow the coast of the wastes until they found something. After 9 months they discovered the first small settlements of the people of Isa. they were taken to meet the local lord who after some days of tense discussions decided they posed no threat and would be allowed to continue travelling onwards or return home, whichever they saw fit to. However Vaeltaja decided to remain in this lords town for some weeks, building a good relationship with the lord and his advisors which allowed him to write an initial outline of who the people of Isa were and whatever else they thought may be useful.   When the weather improved the following spring he split his caravan, sending half of their number to make the journey back to the settled lands to bring news of their discovery and what information they had gathered, before with his remaining men setting out to travel south through the lands of Isa. For five years he travelled extensively through these new regions documenting what he saw and who he met, he even commissioned the grand painting of the Temple of Isa that hangs in The Archive to this day, from local artists.   Eventually though he decided to return home bringing all he had collected, after the long journey back, he spent most of the rest of his years working with the Recorders of The Archive to detail everything he had been able to learn into a number of volumes that are too this day some of the best detail we have of the People of Isa and especially from the early centuries.    He continued to travel within the settled lands writing further volumes on his discovers but never returned to the Lands of Isa again. He died at the age of 48 whilst on an expedition to summit the highest peak within the settled lands.
