Seaudyr

Seaudyr is the continent that contains the Maecodian Confederation and the Noblewhite Alliance. It is divided into four major sections: The Badlands to the west, the Infinite Forests to the East, the Frozen North, and the Great Grass Oceans of the center and south. The Badlands are separated from the rest of the continent by the Barrier Mountains (Sometimes known as the Bulwarks). The east and the center are divided by a great freshwater lake. The Frozen North is marked by a glacier-crusted tundra and a massive Pine Barren. The Great Grass Oceans are largely rolling hills covered in natural grasses and wheats, dotted with trees and ruins. Standing atop one hill, it's possible to believe that one can see everything between themselves and the horizon. The hills are deceptive, and valleys can hide anything from ancient ruins to lowland forests. Many a militia has gotten the upper hand by marching down one hill and looping around behind the enemy while they expected them to continue straight on.   The Maecodian Confederation is made up of five cantons: Cambreath, Eldermeare, Northrealm, Wupan, and Prunyth. These cantons are each ruled by an Elector Council, landed freemen that won a popular, yearly vote from the citizens of his canton. Each Canton sends three electors to a Federated Elector Council. These electors choose Edlers, chief executives tasked with dealing with specific problems. Within the borders and a framework of law known as the Citadel which vaguely marks each citizen's rights and responsibilities, political entities largely have autonomy. Each canton maintains a small professional corps of soldiers, bolstered by militia from the cities and towns in their borders. Each town has the right to make 'war' on other towns, though these wars are governed by enough rules of fair play that they're practically sport and can sometimes be treated as such.   The racial makeup of the Maecodian Confederation is mostly human. Almost as many halflings exist in most human settlements as humans, and they tend to cohabitate with the humans with the halflings living in clean underhill cellars beneath human homes.   In the frozen lands of the Northrealm, the former hegemony of the giants is on display in both the culture and the prevalence of the Firbolg and the Goliath races. Northrealm's electors are chosen in the fighting pits from among the arls. .   In Prunyth, the Archduchess reigns supreme as a demigod, culture hero, and queen. She is not herself elected, but instead worshiped universally, with her appointed elector council advising her. Her people are humans, and if they are 'good citizens' of her realm they earn the honor of becoming necropolitans after their deaths to potentially 'live' forever. Otherwise, they become zombies that carry out the civil works of the canton or skeletons that form its levies.   Wupan controls the southern coast and most of the navy. They conduct trade with the isolated islander tribes throughout the world, and bring back news of the dragon wars.    Eldermeare is known as an urbane and settled region. Its people are mostly human, and often accused of being soft. This is a canton of shopkeepers, artists, and architects. They are fueled by the Opaline Guild and its products.   Cambreath, being the first stop on any goblin incursion, is known as a chivalrous and martial region. Neighbors to the dwarves, they have more of the stout folk here than in the rest of Maecodia combined. The electors of Cambreath appoint a special edler known as the Margrave, and in acknowledgement of the likelihood of their experience and veterancy they are tasked with leading Maecodia's armies should the whole confederation go to war.   The Maecodian Confederation is signed to the Noblewhite Alliance with the Dwarves and the Elves, and are currently in a cold war with the goblins in the badlands.   The Noblewhite Alliance is a system of defense and trade agreements between Maecodia, the Doroinir Elves, and the Dawi dwarves and gnomes beneath the Barrier Mountains. Within this agreement, the Dwarves regard the supply of weapons and armor as fulfilling their obligations, and the elves will always leave to the Feywild before serious harm is done to their own civilization. Only the Maecodians will stand and fight to the death, and this fact has turned the Alliance into something of a quiet, casual hegemony, though the disorganization of the human confederation has caused them to be unable to act on this superiority.
