frurl

The frurl is a mammel native to Karenth, similar to a cross between a horse and an oxen. They are taller than oxen by a couple hands, with the legs of a power draft horse. Typically the coats are black or dark brown, and their faces are more like a horse. Their eyes are a dark purple, and intelligent. In addition, they can see well, even in the dark.   Frurl (the plural) are a herd animal and a bit more intelligent then a smart horse. They are well known for finding food in areas where food is not plentiful, often turning towards the food and walking towards it without any apparent visuals of the food source. They are grazers and browsers, eating grasses, seeds, and some fruits and berries. They are particullarly fond of taftra, and sometimes granted it as a treat.   The frurl were unafraid of the Displaced when they arrived, and in so much even greated some parties. They are loyal when well kept, and smart enough to not need fenced. When treated poorly, they may attack the offenders with strong legs, kicking, rearing, and biting.   They are often used as plow animals, for pulling wagons, or for bucking logs. While slow runners, they are fierce warriors and will fight off major predators. Due to their speed they make poor war mounts.   Frurl are rarely eaten as they are extremely gamey and tough. No good recipes exist to eat the animals.   The frurl live for 30-40 years, bearing single calves yearly starting at age two through 25.   Frurl milk is tinged slightly purple, and is a delicacy, making a deep purple cheese, or used in much the same manner as cows milk. Frurl will not continue to produce milk when not nursing young, and artificial attempts to duplicate this have all failed.
