Snowcrawler Vehicle in Jerna's Diary | World Anvil

Snowcrawler

These giant vehicles are used to traverse Maerkhor during snowstorms and other extreme weathers. I've ridden in a couple, and the technology is so complicated I could barely wrap my head around it, but I enjoyed in nonetheless.

Design

Despite me being rather tech-savvy, I still cannot understand why these vehicles are so unnecessarily complicated. Snowcrawlers have 6 legs, a dome shaped cabin, a small shovel on the front that can be extended, but for some reason the back of the snowcrawler is like 90% wires that have no purpose. I don't understand who the heck designed them, but I know I could do a better job.
These vehicles were designed after dragons and insects, with solar panel "wings" that will passively absord sunlight while not in use. That part is clever, I'll give it to them, but that's about the only clever thing about them.

Original Use

Snowcrawlers were first used by the extremely rich to take themselves on tours of Maerkhor, admiring the scenery in places most couldn't go because of the temperatures. They were first built in the 1900s, and only in the last decade of that century were they becoming used for public transport. Their designs shifted to store more people, and to handle temperatures better, but overall little changed in the design.
One of my favourite things to brag about is when I was invited on a private tour of the peaks of Cherry Mountain in a snowcrawler a couple decades back, with Amandin Mea.

Do NOT use a snowcrawler without having some sort of cushion on your seat. They are so incredibly bumpy, when you get off the vehicle you will fall over because you've been thrown about and your butt hits the ground and the ceiling and the walls. They really need to design this better, like maybe add cushioned seats?? It can't be that hard when 90% of the damn vehicle is useless wires.

And I'm sorry, why the hell are there TWO LADDERS TO GET INTO THE DAMN VEHICLE!? You have to climb a ladder to open the door, then climb another ladder to get into the vehicle because half of the door covers the side of the snowcrawler instead of being an actual entrance to the cabin.

Sassy Jerna, me likey! It does sound kinda stupid to have wires on the back that don't do anything, so I totally feel her.   Keep up the good work! :D

Thank you so much! I'm hoping to show more of her personality in these articles, but this is a good example I think :)

I love the warning that you need a cushion for your seat. I also love that you went for a snow vehicle, as I'm thinking of doing the same for this prompt.
