Aestux Item in Iphars | World Anvil

Aestux

Iphars is being reworked! Please bear with me!

Aestux is one of the first heat to energy machines created in Dhalgron. It was used to automate the irrigation system of the fields near the city. These machines used lava and water as a timers and to let the water irrigate the farms or not.
Nowadays, these machines have been replaced with modern magical machines that do the same but faster, less complicate to use (and need less components) and cheaper to construct. Aestrux can still be found in museums, and sometimes even in illegal and legal actions, selling them as a memento from when there was no magic in Iphars.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The machine lets lava enter inside some tubes. These tubes go under a container with water and then it is stopped until all the water turns into vapor. When all water is turned into vapor, it pushes up a piece of wood that allows the lava to exit the machine and activates the irrigation system by letting certain calculated quantity of water enter the system. When the lava exits the machine, conducts take it back to Knikis source.
A complicated system won't allow lava to enter again the machine until the water has turned to be in liquid state and the machine has cooled down. Then, the cycle starts again and lava enters the machine again.

Item type
Mechanical
Current Location
Rarity
Most of Aestux were destroyed to reuse the components when new technologies that used magic started to be created and replaced the Aestux, but some of them survived either to be put in museums or because they were stolen. It is estimated that only five machines still existed, but there may be some more.
Weight
80 kg (176 lbs)
Raw materials & Components
Most of the machine is made of terracota (which it's melting point is higher than the temperature of the lava in Knikis source), there are some pieces that are made of metal, wood and there is even string in some places.

Really cool - I love how they managed to make a use for lava, which is usually only a destructive force! Great idea! :)
