Physical Appearance

This plant, named for its bell-shaped flowers, grows on the rocky slopes of the North Downs. These fragile flowers hang from slender stems, and range from shades of light purple to dark blue. The leaves of the Harebell flower are heart-shaped and wide, with fringed edges.

Uses in Industry

Harebell petals are used to make blue and purple dyes, in mixtures designed to bring out the desired hues. The pollen inside the flowers is also highly fragrant, and is a popular ingredient for perfumes. The stalks are woven into crowns for young ladies to wear during spring festivals. No uses have been discovered for this plant in Voligenetics.
