Caribou Rancher

At the gates of the city of Advarsel and along the main highway, one can find Caribou Stables with mounts for rent. While most often hired for individual use, these Caribou have also been used to fill vacancies in sled teams. In the case of a longer trip, feed and cargo bags are available for purchase at the hiring station. While Caribou for hire are thoroughly trained and generally docile, injuries by them are possible, and people hiring one agree to be responsible for any damages.

Some more prominent stables have networks in place to enable customers to hire a mount from one location and return it at another, but at the expense of a fee. The stables are routinely checked at the beginning and end of each day to ensure that all animals are accounted for. At the end of the week any exchanged Caribou are returned by the stablehands to their home stable. In the case of dislocated or lost mounts, a hefty fee is charged to the lessee and the lost Caribou is hunted down by a Courser.

The Caribou for hire are raised on ranches on ranches on the Steppes. Workers on these ranches typically build their careers aroung stable work, but contracted workers may be taken on for limited times. Many young people not seeking work within the city prefer stable work to farm work, on account of the harsh wind on the Moors. Ranch work varies from administrative and training positions to maintenance/grooming.

Caribou ranching is somewhat arbitrarily regulated. It is illegal for Caribou to be raised for meat, but hunting them in the wild is allowed. All animals raised on a ranch are tagged to indicate ownership and documented with the Advarsel City Hall.

It seems straightforward but it has all the relevant details and who doesn't love a caribou?? Nice work.

Thank you! I tend to value concision. This is one of my first ventures into in-world text.
