IN THE SUMMER and autumn of 19 41, when he was a young man of 24, Petras Zelionka participated in one of the worst crimes in history: the shooting of Jewish men, women and children in the murders that occurred in the wake of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union.
Paving the way for his actions where a number of community wide fabrications. Lubricating his actions was alcohol and curiosity.
So pervasive the 'reasons' where for his actions that 50 years later he thought perhaps, if people took the time to think about the story of his life, that people would 'understand'.
