Chapter 37 THE HUMAN MIND

This chapter is based on important concepts established in Chapter Chapter 36 MESSAGE SEEDS AND THOUGHT PLANTS.     Like the heart, the mind has form and function in both the NAPOX and the SUPOX. In the former, it is an organ in the body, in the latter it is the nexus of free will. Thoughts from the heart arrive in the mind to be combined with a person’s free will. It is in the mind they become decisions and then instructions for the body to put into action.   But this is not to say that the mind is the summit of Mankind, or at least, it was not designed to be that way in the beginning. The mind was designed to be subservient to the spirit.   In the global west it is intellect, above all else, that is worshipped. Education is hailed a savior, the ‘educated’ priests at its altar. And, of course, that makes complete sense. For the spirit-dead the mind is all that they’re left with. It is the only remaining tower within the ruins of their fallen castle. Without doubt the mind of mankind is remarkable, but no more remarkable than its Achilles' heel. The mind is ultimately subverted by the heart, an inevitable result given that the mind is dependent on willpower from the heart to function.
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. ROMANS 8:5-6 NIV

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. PHILIPPIANS 3:19 NIV
The interplay between the heart and the mind is a two-way street.   The most important type of decision a mind can make is that of belief. The decision to believe, importantly, is initiated in the mind but then actioned in the heart. Disbelief, equally, is initiated in the mind but then put into effect in the heart. At the instruction of the mind to believe, the heart will allow the corresponding seed associated with the message to take root. At the mind’s instruction to disbelieve, the heart will either shun the message seed or, should it already be planted, attempt to uproot it.   There is then an inverse transaction, flowing in the opposite direction.   Beliefs originating in the heart, translate to thoughts in the mind. The heart is not involved in all comings and goings within the mind, many of which pertain only to daily tasks, functions, and bodily directions. But the heart is comprehensively involved in every thought and decision that pertains to God and the people that surround it. Thoughts of good or evil, these come from the heart.
“For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you.” MATTHEW 15:19-20 NLT
The thoughts and attitudes of the heart are the substance of a person’s nephesh. They are the material from which a person’s soul and character are formed. They are ultimately what remains of the person when their body passes away, and the sum total of what must then pass through the fire of judgment.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. HEBREWS 4:12 NIV
