Ga'Tharai Rings are metal power generators that when activated, distribute a Ga'Tharai Shol enhanced energy shield around the user's body. Typically used by Calri Royal Guardsmen, Patriot units, or Council Guards, the Ga'Tharai Ring provides excellent protection from glancing fire and most direct fire from slugthrowers and carbines and lengthens the lifespan and combat viability of the wearer against lazers.
Each ring can maintain an undamaged shield for three days without a recharge. Every subsequent day will either diminish the shield's power or require the user to reduce the coverage of the body.
Provided the wearer hasn't exhausted their personal Shol reserves, they can maintain the shield during combat by pouring Shol into the crystal inside the ring. The ring can even be overloaded into a stronger version. Doing so will not last long and will cause the shield absorb more impacts but drain three times as fast.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Each ring has a receiver inside that activates the shield when the user channels Shol into it. Protected by steel and a layer of Ta'Falia dust, the inside of the ring is filled with Ga'Tharai crystal and surounded by liquid Ga'Tharai.
The liquid is pre-activated, meaning that the user can activate the ring in an emergency without using their own Shol reserves. This supply will quickly run out but will buy critical time.
The crystal, on the other hand, acts as a rechargeable battery that the user can refill with their own Ga'Tharai Shol for later use.

Most Ga'Tharai Rings are given to Calri Patriots or their superiors. Some rings are given to distinguished nobles or loaned to certain Calri specialist units such as Calri Persuaders during a critical task.
Before the Calri took power there were three hundred total rings in circulation. Now only one hundred sixty three are accounted for.
Finding one that was lost is an excellent opportunity for profit either by selling it to the Emperor or more likely, the black market. Keeping one for oneself is a dangerous game.
