Devils and Fiends
The term Demonic entity refers to two broad categories. The first being any entity whose origin or domain is a hell dimension, and second being any entity that corrupts or twists the concept of a domain, such as a Daemon. While devils and fiends are often regarded as demons, the title is not entirely true and many demons would consider it insulting at best.
Many demonologists would be quick to correct such thinking.
A demon is a being that is of the domain they inhabit. They are similar to servitors, unlike daemons. However, daemons are a desperate lot and seek to join with more powerful entities to fully realize their purviews. They seek to spread their malicious intent but on their own cannot influence the physical world, a task that demons couldn't care less about. The demons are a fallen race, shadows of what they once were. Their only goal is to restore their greatness.
By possessing another, however, a daemon can cause a number of problems for all those involved.
A devil is a celestial being, most often a demon, not only possessed but completely ensnared and transformed by the daemon within. They are no longer separate entities and are now something new and something very different.
Devils are malicious and the only demonic entity who barters in souls. They are twisted forms of the two who became one and are driven by a deep desire to spread and experience what they represent. A devil of lust will spread lust wherever it goes, caring little for who they act upon and what effects they cause.
Fiends are a little different, a joining that went wrong. Once fiends may have been a devil or a demon of considerable will. The joining would be fought and disrupted, and the creature that spawns from this broken union is a friend. Fiends are not malicious by nature, but beasts without thought and agenda. They act on instinct and often attack sight. They are remarkably strong and horrifying to look at. These creatures are often enslaved by more powerful demonic creatures. They are trained and become pets or used as machines of war.
Demons vs. Daemons
Demons and daemons are both demonic but many refer to them both as demons. This is not the case. A demon has intelligence and reason. They rarely wish to venture to the physical plane. They don't bargain for souls. They don't mean ill will most of the time.
Daemons are malicious spirits that twist and corrupt the purview of a domain. They are hedonistic parasites who seek to possess and then give into their excess. They consume and bind themselves to lesser souls to grow stronger and demons of any hell dimension go to great lengths to contain them. Demons are most at risk from daemons. Should daemons combine with them, what emerges from the union is a devil.
