The Brambleguard

WIP - Summer Camp 2023

The Brambleguard is the large prison in the centre of Azuria, the home of the Azure Guards. It is made of three large spires that reach up towards the surface of the water, each of them twisted in a spiral. The building is made of a mixture of rock and spiny coral. It was first made out of rock and the coral has been cultivated over the past few centuries since the prison was established.   The prison was established a few years after Azuria itself, but at the time it was little more than a small stone building for containing ne'er-do-wells. As the settlement and the duties of the Azure Guards expanded, so did the prison, growing into the iconic building that stands today.   Each of the spires holds a number of prison cells, spiralling all the way up to the top. The spires are separated by seriousness of crime, with the largest spire being reserved for the long term, more violent prisoners. Each cell has a few inches of air at the top to allow prisoners to breathe, with the air cycled out for fresh by a pump mechanism daily. The bottom floor of the building is for administration purposes and also where the guards stay whilst they are on duty.   Prisoners are fed two meals a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. Controversially, they are fed the same meals as the guards.   Thirty years ago, a scandal hit the prison when a prisoner drowned in his cell. An investigation was launched, and the conclusion was eventually drawn that it was an accident. Considering that the Azure Guard were investigating themselves, some people do not believe that to be the truth. Ever since then, people have looked upon the Brambleguard and the Azure Guard with a bit more skepticism and suspicion.
