Elewnai/Marwolaeth

The Elewnai are the primary species of Elewna (known as Marwolaeth on Terra), shapeshifters that have a two-legged form and a four-legged/animalistic form. They grouped into clans, and are spread out over all continents of the world.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Elewnai always have at least two names: names given at birth as identifiers (usually descriptors of their birth, or the day, or how the parent felt) and names earned by the clan. Some have three recognized names, and the third is a name or moniker they pick out for themselves, but this comes as the very last name.   Traditionally the only way you know which family group an Elewnai belongs to will be in the title, less in the name (i.e. Son/Daughter/Child of ____), and even this depends on which family member raised them or which one they prefer to be associated with.

Major Organizations

There are ten known clans, two lost clans, and possibly more clans away from the main continent. From north-east to south-west, they are:
  • Umatoe
  • Muagjia
  • Orieiifio
  • BaHaat
  • Kamare
  • Onisraeri
  • Deveol (colony in the air)
  • Sati
  • Faroae
  • Nainona
Within each, there are nine overarching factions/classes/professions:
  • Kibsu (Hunters)
  • Gasru (Brawlers)
  • Gaki (Rangers)
  • Simtu (Atmu-Gifted Healer)
  • Ade (Guard)
  • Masalu (Trickster)
  • Siali (Elemental Fighter)
  • Ardadu (Rouge)
  • Tupsarru (Scholar)

Beauty Ideals

The individual's natural state.

Gender Ideals

Varies by Clan, but typically the males the guards, protectors, peace-keepers and leaders, while the females are the fighters, hunters, specialists, and leaders.

Courtship Ideals

Males pursue and present, make themselves available. Females decide who, what, when, where, and how.   Each is looking primarily for survival skills that align with Clan structures, and so each male must present their case through best means; either presenting the best choice of food, the best trading post, the quickest mind or the quickest feet, the thickest fur, the toughest physique, etc.

Relationship Ideals

Primarily, the ideal relationship is a sort of mutually-agreed-upon-independent-together relationship; a male/female will likely have multiple intimate relationships, yet if they are drawn to a particular other they can talk and see if the other is drawn to them; if so, they exit the fray and spend as much time in the relationship as they both want, yet are allowed to call it quits and go back into the fray when one is done, and there is no shame for either if this happens.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

There are primary languages for each group, and a basic language passed down from the Atmu/Elementals (but thanks to Aalis, they have a sort of auto-translate ability that allows them to understand/speak other languages with small amounts of sampling (the magic acts as the universal translator; it samples and translates the spoken language into a language they can understand, then translates their words next into the speaker's native language), and these languages (in the same order as above) are:
  • Reumto
  • Tua
  • Icorei
  • Awbaha
  • Kamere
  • Oaeri
  • Bade
  • Sati-Tes
  • Faa
  • Nario
  • Eserus-At (Language of the Atmu/Elementals)

Common Etiquette Rules

  • Do not challenge territorial law if you do not belong to that territory.
  • Do not draw teeth or claw on another if it is not within bounds of law.
  • Learn and respect outside Clan's rules or do not approach them.
  • Pay the same respect to the dead as to the living, and to the living as to the dead.
  • Ask questions if you do not know that you know the answer.
  • Answer questions if you are asked and know that you know the answer. If you do not know the answer, find someone that does.

History

Created in the beginning as two-legged creatures by an Atmu/Elemental known as Aalis, a combination of water element/magic and magic element/magic, they were given the more animalistic form later on before the Atmu/elementals vanished.   Primarily they all operate in clan-oriented communities, where there is one overarching leader with several branching positions of hierarchy, usually overseeing their own group and so on and so forth, viewed almost as a social web with the overarching leader in the center, and the leaders elected branching from him/her, and their leaders branching from him/her, etc, including those on the outskirts viewed almost as the anchor of the society and no more or less valued than those in the middle, and each leader having done what his/her society has demanded in order to get to the desired position (some are born into it, some fight for it, some cheat for it, and some are elected to it).
