Palace of Justice and Peace

"The empty halls serve as a powerful reminder to what happens if you try to usurp too much power for yourself."
Previously the seat of Eight Ministries, the Palace of Justice and Peace now serves as the main parliamental building where all the important meetings, discussions and voting takes place. To be completely fair, technically, it all happens below the building. Only the cellar rooms remained intact and structurally sound after the Great Purge of 1367.   Once mighty and luxurious, the palace itself holds onto its splendour only if you look at it from the outside. If you venture in through the main gate, you will be welcomed by empty halls, bits of the main marble staircase, and hollow walls with many windows letting the light hit the remains of what used to be one of the richest and exquisite building in the world. As the Great Purge ended in fire and complete desolation, the walls were the only things able to withstand much of the destruction even though they required extensive and expensive repairs so that the building wouldn't completely collapse. The outside facade was repaired and decorated according to many historical paintings of this place, as it was forbidden for anyone besides the royal ministers and their staff to enter the building itself for many centuries.   As stated before, all the meetings of the main body of executive power happen below the ground as it is a well known societal belief that politicians should ever be above the common people that they serve - and that everything that is decided should benefit everone equally and not just the ruling classes. Underground everyone is equal, or so the common - albeit a bit morbid - saying goes.   The palace grounds are still worth a visit to any member of the public as the ruins and the underground spaces are a treat to behold. It is not a secret that some portions of the main island are slowly over the centuries sinking into the ground and the palace was build on the previous structure of a castle that was there before him, but was abandoned until it fell under the ownership of Frederic the duke of Iroln, who decided to take this place as his main seat of power. Thanks to him and, many politicians joke nowadays, that "it is not so bad to be six feet under every day."
