Chezrian One-Voice Outreach Program
History
One-Voice Outreach
For centuries, those kliasta unlucky enough to suffer from One-Voice, or even sometimes the loss of both voice boxes, were shunned by general society and left to fend for themselves, unable to communicate with their fellow people.
The One-Voice Outreach Program was set up originally as a safe haven for kliasta unable to speak. Over time, they developed their own sign language, and the place quickly became well-known across Chezri.
Modern Day
The Coop, as it is affectionately known, has been world famous since the monoduga invention last year of the artificial syrinx, a strange device that somehow channels energy from the Settler to allow a suffereer of One-Voice to speak again.
With two devices, even a completely mute kliasta can be given a voice, but one such device is expensive enough.
Fly the Coop
This is a phrase used to refer to a kliasta who was previously mute, has had an artificial syrnix made, and has then decided to leave the Coop.
Keeping traditions
While the artificial syrinx has brought a lot more wing-traffic to the area, and even overseas tourism from people intrigued by the unique technology, the Coop has retained its original purpose.
Over the years, the Coop has become the centre of a thriving village of mute kliasta that also welcomes anyone who wishes to live there, provided they learn the sign language.
