The Crowned Veil

The Crowned Veil feels like a world apart in more ways than one. Its practical fortifications are built atop symbolic ones that evoke a time long before the Fall, a fantastical era undreamt of even by most scholars of the world that was. Murilans claim this was the seat of the Ole Kingsdom, from which the great Nelson Dynasty ruled with power and pageantry in equal measure. Their deeds are celebrated to this day by devoted Murilans, in revels that recreate their great victories and tragedies. While these faires and festivals reach their zenith during the autumn harvest, Murilans routinely make pilgrimages to the Veil to carouse with their kin and to seek guidance from the Enactors.   The Enactors carry no specific authority among Murilans, but their words are often treated with great reverence. Enactors immerse themselves in taking on the personage of an honored oldcestor, to the extent that their former selves are wholly subsumed by the performance and are believed by some to channel the spiritual power of their role. This court of royal masquers dispense parables and prophecies which Murilans use to weigh important decisions, as well as officiating the great feasts for which the Veil is famous.   Though most Senatorial families consider the Veil and its claims of royal history to be a gaudy pretense, the Carols and Calverts have always ensured a representative is present for the annual harvest festival to deliver gifts to the celebrants and respects to the Enactors. This tradition has earned them some ridicule among the peerage, but nonetheless has cemented a close tie between their houses and the Murilans of the Veil.
