Mirenna Yildasa (Mira)
The main character of the Costrus book. She is a cat shifter, and technically a princess of the yildae royal family. She knows this fact but keeps it a secret from everyone else.
Students Learn From All Teachers
I watched from a safe distance as Marsin gathered the children around him. I smiled at all the carefree energy at the edge of the fire. We all seemed to look forward to Marsin's stories, even those of us who were much older than children and far from innocent of the ways of the world. I leaned against a crumbling pillar and waited for Marsin to begin.
My quiet contemplation was disturbed as I smelled the now familiar juniper and wildflower scent that seemed to cling to Brielle, announcing her arrival before she even spoke. "Hi Mira, what's going on?"
Her curiosity made her a good student and apprentice mage, but sometimes it just made me weary. I made a mental note to apologise to my own teacher. "Marsin is about to tell some stories. You should sit in, he's talking about grave thistles tonight."
"But, it's all children," I glanced over and her face had fallen, and she chewed on her lip a little before continuing, "some of the children are still scared of me."
"Yes, I know." Truly it wasn't just the children that feared Brie, many adults didn't trust her either. "But, associating yourself with Marsin will go a long way. Go sit with the children, ask questions, laugh at his jokes, and try to have a little fun."
I was proud to watch my student listen and approach the fireside. Some of the children shrunk away from her, but Marsin welcomed her with a big hug and tussled her hair as if she too was just another child. Their laughter tickled my ears as I returned to my room to do some reading, a smile of joy that couldn't be ignored plastered itself on my face.
