Centaur

Written by jlficks

Centaurs are a race of half-men, half-horses. Centaurs have the lower body of a horse and are considered great nomads of Covent. Many Centaur tribes roam the prairies and wilds of the Wylche, the giant largely uncharted continent to the north of Sylvane. However, a nation of Centaurs have never left their ancestral homeland in Sylvane, called the Fatherland. This land is sacred to all Centaurs as it is believed to be the lands from which their race first spread across the world. Centaur have been burying their ancestors in the Barrows since the beginning of time. It is believed that as each Centaur returns to the ground, his or her spirit lives on and gives life back to the land.   The Centaurs of the Fatherland were conquered by Doljinaar and now submit to human rule, as a province of Doljinaar. This has caused a rift among Centaurs, those who have embraced Western society and those who resent Doljinaarian rule. Doljinaar Kings have worked hard to develop good relations with the Centaur and have had some success. There have been a few uprisings, but the Centaurs have been granted most of their land and burial grounds, with the exception of the roads, waypoint towns on the roads and fortresses needed to keep the west safe.
Given Centaurs are largely nomadic depending on the seasons and migrations of their herds, traditional more tribal Centaurs don’t usually settled down in a town or even have a house. Instead, they live in tents and camps which can be moved throughout the land. However, there are a growing number of Centaurs who have begun to embrace human culture, become skilled builders and have settled down into traditional houses. This has made Waytown a large city, a well-provisioned traveler’s pause, which caters to Humans and Dwarves on trade routes traveling between Doljinaar and Gildron.
