Muhdrakon Eggs

"What's that cave?"   "Muhdrakon cave, Sir!"   "What's in there?"   "Dunno sir, platoon just came out, said they had found immature biologicals inside. Then the enemy just went berserk!"   "You can say that again, what's with them?"   "Maybe the biologicals are theirs, Sir? Like their progeny?"   "Hostages, contact that platoon, let them know. Send another platoon back in the cave, locate any remaining ones..."   "Ehh, no, Sir, platoon used flamethrowers before they left... Only immature biologicals in there now are omelets..."   "Wrong instinct, but still tells us something, I want an all-squad bulletin, everyone knows about this. Those lizards have eggs, and those eggs matter! I want this broadcast to everyone."   "Aye-aye, Sir."   "You shitting me, lieutenant, or you been in the navy?"   "I'm a space marine, Sir, like everyone in your security detail. We use naval jargon."   "Fine, so, gunny lieutenant, make a squawk, then tell everyone to make a hole, in them, hear me?"   "Aye-aye Sir! With pleasure."
"The companions are besides themselves, 100% progeny loss!"   "Stow that! What about those terrans?"   "They're reinforcing! I don't know from where, but they are plugging holes in their lines. We can't hold much longer. The drakons did the holes, but now they're just exhausted."   "Prepare to pull back to map section 65-2-14. We will counter-attack another day. And get those drakons mated again, if they'll do this for their eggs, we want them to do it every time."   "Aye, Diamond leader."   "Send Agate-leader Ryfleh Marinor to me when you're done."   "Aye."
"You sent for me Diamond Leader?"   "Ryfleh, tell it to me straight, are the men losing faith in me?"   "What? No!"   "Then why did we lose, we outnumbered those Terrans two to one! And that's not counting the Drakons."   "They have new tactics, and new support weapons. Their new x-o-frames are potent, and they are doing combined-arms tactics with them for the first time, as we understand the term."   "What, combined-arms? Really?"   "I even saw one of their larger frames anchoring a line of heavy infantry, the thing is about 50 tons!"   "How fast it is?"   "Like a slow terran, which is why the tactic is working so well. They are heavy, but have huge, potent engines, and the myomer makes them somewhat nimble for their size. No one will dance ballet wearing the things, but they can brawl, hand-to-hand, and we have no reply. Not when our heaviest unit is only twenty tons."   "Why would their tactics change? And why wouldn't our priests warn me they would?"   "The ways of the Sneki Snek are impenetrable." Using the slang term for the priesthood wasn't safe, normally, but, in a senior officer's quarters, safe enough, maybe.   "So sneki, indeed." Sneki Snek had started as a children's show, naked propaganda if anything, now it was a way to couch criticism of the priests of Sotheki-Sheik in oblique terms, when in friendly surroundings, at least. No one had dared tried it in the face of the priests.   "The terrans have an advantage over us, Ryfleh."
