The Scholar's Key

The Scholar's Key is a mythical arcane artifact that is said to be able to open the Vaults of all Schools. These Vaults can now be opened without it, but it's safe to assume that centuries ago, only the Key could open them without breaking their contents. Regardless, the artifact's value has only risen, not only because of its historical importance, but also because it's said that it could have hidden arcane properties.

Value

Legends say that the bearer of the Key could not only open the Vaults but also "wield their power". The Vaults contain important documents and relics, so a possible interpretation of this phrase is that the bearer would gain a lot of useful and powerful knowledge. However, other interpretations claim that the bearer of the Key would be able to unlock a source of immense power. If this were true, this could be an explanation for phenomena like the Radiant Sky or the floating Eimaui Archipelago, which are clearly artificial but at the same time show a power beyond what any human could do.

Ownership

Even though the artifact's location isn't know (nor is it known if it's still intact), there is actually a certificate of ownership. This certificate is often sold and bought at extremely prices, even though its only value comes from a myth. In addiion to that, ince the Schools would want the Key for themselves, it would end up being legally owned by the The Veil—as the highest arcane authority, it has automatic ownership over any found relics in the event of a dispute.
