Min-aniara Laita Character in Black Light | World Anvil

Min-aniara Laita

Min-aniara Laita is an astrosociologist from Minama who frequently goes around the universe, exploring and documenting the lives of different societies and cultures. They are considered to be the parent of astrosociology, although there are few fields of knowledge that they haven't touched on. Assumed dead by most people, they still wander the universe, exploring it and hoping to find the answers to the questions that plague them.

Morality

I must say, I have considered writing about myself. But why should I? This journal documents the ways of different people around the world, and I am but a speck of dust in the middle of the dark nothingness. Or at least that's what I hope my life will be. This is all you will see about myself in this journal.

In accordance with their religious beliefs, Min-aniara's morality is based on extreme humbleness. Their travel journal was left anonymous with the purpose of not giving any focus to their person. In fact, they are known to be its author only after long investigations by prominent scholars.

A life's work

The purpose of this journal is not only to document other cultures. As interesting as it could be, I write this record not to study them, but to understand them. It is only through understanding that we'll be able to figure out the secrets of the universe and break the cycle.
— From Min-aniara's travel journal
The journal is filled with reflections and meditations about the customs of other cultures. Always with a respectful attitude, Min-aniara's comments highlight traditions that demonstrate a high level of intelligence an strong morality, while still keeping a critical eye on the less moral traditions. Of course, Minama, their native planet, is also included in their social critique, and is actually one of their most heavily criticised places.   All throughout the journal, Min-aniara keeps referring to a "cycle", something that is "fated" to happen again. Putting together other allusions and hints, scholars have inferred that it has something to do with history and the Eternals (the powerful beings seen as gods by some cultures). However, these allusions don't seem to be intentional, so whatever they mean, Min-aniara has kept it a secret until now.

Disappearance

Min-aniara Laita left Minama when they were fourty years old with the purpose of exploring the universe. They never returned to their home planet, and their travel journal was found inside a tiny star capsule sent to Minama's solar system.   Several search parties were sent out to try and find them, but they were only able to catch rumors of their presence in other planets. Now, after over a century since their disappearance, it's assumed they died, maybe due to old age, in another planet. Whatever their fate may have been, their works will always be remembered as the foundational works of astrosociology.
