Fashot

Fashot is the major settlement of the Mapek Gens. It is a small, close knit community of Mapek located in the Southern Kotuye region. It was recently destroyed by an avalanche, but the Mapek hope to return soon.
No outsiders are welcome within the boundaries of the town. Those that do dare to enter are ignored and shunned at best. Those that cannot take a hint, are forcibly expelled from town regardless of their condition or the weather.
There used to be a makret square just outside of town where traders from other Fas gens could hawk their wares. The ruins are still able to be visited, but trade ended hundreds of years ago. The destruction of the market square is attributed to the myth, Ants in the Shadow of Giants, and the resulting warnings from of the main characters of the myth, Alashe.
The town of Ashot is maintained by its residents, who have no choice but to live there. None of them are permitted to leave the boundaries of the town except under special circumstances, such as professions that require them to go further afield. Professions like this include hunters, cattle herds, and power plant monitors. Otherwise, all residents remain within the boundaries defined by their extreme isolationist government.
Since the people of Fashot are unable to grow food for most of the year because of the bitter cold, they maintain themselves by hunting, gathering, and preserving as much of what they acquire as they possibly can. Cattle and trade supplement the meager lifestyle of its people.
The future of Fashot is uncertain after a major natural disaster. An avalanche decimated the town and killed many of its residents before the Mapek were willing to accept help from the increasingly panicking outsiders. The vast majority of Mapek currently live within a quarantined zone of Heshi Ariko's Provisional Neighborhood. Considering the number of dead and the level of destruction, not only their settlement is at risk. Their entire way of life is on the line as this small, traumatized community has been brought closer to the northern civilizations they had isolated themselves from for thousands of years.
