The History of Astora so far

  • Creator Races

Little is known about the enigmatic creator races, known as "Those That Came Before". It is believed they created many of the mortal races that now populate Astora, though scant evidence can be found to lend to their existence. Whilst the Draconic and Giant races would predate them, neither possess any record of their existence, giving them a mythological status amongst the sages of Astora.
  • Dragonflight Kingdoms

The first mortal empires to exist in Astora were those of the dragons. While not organized into proper nations, the true dragons ruled over much of the continent, enslaving all within their domain. They reigned supreme for countless millennia, followed by thousands of years of infighting and war that lasted until their cataclysmic collapse during The Dragon Rage.
  • Ostoria

Founded when the world was young, in the Era of the Dawn Powers, the giant kingdom of Ostoria (known as the Colossal Kingdom) ruled over northern Astora in direct competition with the Dragonflight Kingdoms for dominance. In their hubris, they thought themselves capable of defeating the weakened dragon empires whilst they fought amongst themselves, instead finding themselves ground down under millennia of war until their eventual collapse.
  • Lost Elven Kingdoms

Coming to power after activating the Dracorage Mythal, the ancient elven kingdoms ruled in Astora in relative peace during the Era of First Flowering, before plunging the continent into war during The Crown Wars. All but Tor Dorthanolin collapsed under the weight of millennia of war, leaving a power vaccuum that eventually led to the rise of the Human empires.
  • Dwarven Clans

Arriving from the sea during the Era of First Flowering, the four dwarven clans ruled from their mountain holds, spanning every mountain range in Astora during their height. Millennia of decline left them with ever shrinking territory, until the last of the great holds finally fell to invasion and war. The dwarves now live amongst the human nations as nomads, with distant dreams of old glory all but gone from their collective memory.
  • Imaskar

Born in the early days of the Era of Man's Folly, Imaskar represented humanity at the height of their power. Little is known about this enigmatic and advanced nation, save that they were masters of the arcane arts, and that their actions angered the gods and led to catastrophic destruction, when the world itself was sundered. They are considered responsible for the appearance of the Interloper Pantheons, and their transgressions against the divines has led to most records of their history being wiped from the world.
  • Unther

The Untheric Empire was the empire of God-Kings, led directly by the gods of the Untheric Pantheon who resided on Astora during this time. The fall of Unther marked the end of the physical presence of the interloper gods in Astora.
  • Netheril

Last of the great human empires, Netheril was second only to Imaskar in both power and arcane mastery. Their mastery of The Weave allowed them to build great cities in the sky, but also brought them to war with the Phaerim, during which their lands were reduced to a barren waste. In a bid to destroy the Phaerim for good, they brought about the cataclysm of Karsus' Folly, ending their empire and forever tainting the lands of the Bloodstone Peninsula in one fell swoop.
  • Tarikov

Born out of the ruins of Unther, the Tarikov Empire covered much of western Astora at its height. Inner strife eventually led the empire to fracturing and collapsing, with many of the current nations of the Westerlands rising up from its parts.
