Lifeguard

A short, trim built grayed out man, wearing the brass of lifeguard rank OR-06 , in a military academy, his nameplate reading Reardon, speaks up: "Today, cadets, we'll talk about how you'll be a positive influence in the world." He waited while they sat down, then continued.   "I'm sure I don't need to remind any of you why a lifeguard is an important element of our world, so sure, I'm going to ask three of you to come up with why it's important that you become one. What good you think you can do. Cadets Rolson, then Fusilli, then Ramilles?"   Cadet Rolson spoke up: "I want to be a lifeguard to help save lives when there's a fire."   Cadet Fusilli: "I want to help disaster recovery when there's a Tsunami or earthquake, lifeguards are first on the scene, laying sandbags, looking for wounded." org Cadet Ramillies: "Lifeguards are our first responders in other situations too, like when someone collapses, a lifeguard is called. Giving vital first aid and transporting people to the hospital."   "That's interesting cadets, do you know why?"   Cadet Fusilli: "We all speak of the same job, but we didn't repeat what the others said."   "That's part of it."   Cadet Rolson: "We all noticed the civilian aspect of our jobs."   "That's true, but it's not the only interesting part."   Cadet Ramilies: "Not only is there almost no overlap in tasks, but we all mentioned saving lives?"   "Yes, that's it. You all want to make a different difference, different enough that you'd end up in different branches of the same service, but it's still the same service. There's room for all of you there and civilian peacekeeping is what the service is most known for, but none of you have mentioned it. I am proud of you cadets, I'll let you go forward for your next examination, now you go to triage calculus!"
