Dead Eye Patch Item in Arc Sagas | World Anvil

Dead Eye Patch

"He lost his eye... and it never came back."
— discord amongst troubled Necromancers

This leather eye patch is tied with a black band. The patch is made with separate pieces of leather but on the face, an ominous cross has been stitched into the patchwork with red thread. The headband of the patch provides a +1 bonus to Armor Rating.

The Dead Eye Patch was an item created by Inquisitors seeking rogue Necromancers. A Dead Eye Patch prevents the wearer from suffering the conditions of Dead Eye, as well as a number of other benefits.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The wearer of a Dead Eye Patch can't be the target of a Dead Eye spell and gains +1 to Armor Rating.

In addition, the wearer is immune to effects that cause a half- blinded condition or targets one eye.

If a Necromancer, or other Caster, uses the Dead Eye spell, the wearer of the eyepatch can destroy the eye. The wearer must be able to successfully attack the eye to destroy it. While this will not destroy the Caster's eye, it immediately deals 1d10 plus the wearer's PSY in damage and the Caster can't use Dead Eye again for the next hour. The eye eventually regrows after the hour.

Lastly, the owner of the Dead Eye Patch is able to sense Necromancy in others' Aura. If the owner can succeed on a DISCOVER check (DC15+Highest Level Necromancy Spell Known), the patch will determine the highest level Necromancy spell that either a person knows or has been afflicted upon a person or object through a curse or enchantment. This effect doesn't tell the owner of the Dead Eye Patch what those effects are; only that they are there.

Manufacturing process

The leather is allowed to soak in the blessed oil during the initial process. The artisan creates a thong from a cord or band of pliable leather. Using the Leatherworking Tools, the leather is bound in three layers to form the patch to the artisan's comfort. To form the cross, special leather is prepared using the blessed oil and the "Necromancer's" leather. The methods by which that the artisan comes upon Necromancer's skin is best left to the imagination.

History

This eyepatch was famously made by an Inquisitor who had suffered from the spells of rogue Necromancers. Losing his own eye left the maimed Inquisitor bereft of mercy for those who were found in misconduct of the law, earning him the title Eye-Bane Goon.

Significance

Many Hunters and Mercenaries seek the bounties on Necromancers, using these eyepatches to protect themselves during their encounters.

Those who practice in the witch hunting disciplines of Lord Eye-Bane Goon still participate in the martial practice of hunting rogue Warlocks and Necromancers. This magical eyepatch helps the Templars determine the strengths of their mortal enemies and continues to punish wicked Casters for their misdeeds.
