Trimontre
Trimontre’s etymology refers to three mountains, but is no more specific than that. It is the southernmost state in Argoria, but it hasn’t always been so. It lies just north of Orlois, and its shores are on the Arlin Ocean. A third of the state is covered with the rugged Ogre Hills, and the rest is draped in the the Northstad Forest. This makes the country rich in shale, other minerals, and excellent timber for shipbuilding. Trimontre also includes the Fangs of the Dragon Islands, those being Grim, Thurgeon, and Duerm Islands, across the Dragon’s Maw straight. Trimontre’s climate is oceanic with a strip of highland zone on its eastern flank. Trimontre’s current earl is Eulard Ashfellow, his wife Edova, and his daughter Adelina b. 1221. Adelina married Durande Mathurne in 1238, so Thalium has a claim to the country through her and her two children. Its capital is Duerm City on Duerm Island. Trimontre’s natives speak Duerm, a variant of Skalling with multiple Aenglik loan words. Luckily, they have no difficulty conversing with their neighbors in the south, Orlois.
The people of Trimontre have had sparing contact with the Universal Church, and still subscribe to Jotun paganism and their Hanged God, the Wandering Concealer. Trimontre is intimately tied with the coastal economic sphere, and her partners are equally Argoria and Orlois. Trimontre has never taken advantage of its own wealth, so it has remained poor, but a milch cow for other countries. It is undeveloped, but its lumber will become more valuable as the current age of sail gets underway. In 1091, the Marcelle battled Argoria and claimed Trimontre, after which it became the northernmost state of the Marcelle. So it remained till 1201 and Argoria/Orlois War, during which Argoria reclaimed Trimontre. That was not the end, because in 1210 Thalium launched a failed invasion, and in 1218 Orlois also invaded fruitlessly.
