St. Claudes

St. Claudes is a tiny island group that includes Athos, Toll, St. Claude, and Eagle. Little Eagle is part of the group, but it is not included here because it belongs to the micro-state of Murse. These islands are found in the Fern Maer Sea, a freshwater inland sea in Kainded. This sea is named the Sea of Silence to St. Claude’s south and the Ungreass Sea on its north shores. This region is noteworthy for its teratorns. These birds are rare and truly massive eagles, some with wingspans up to 28’ wide. They can easily snatch a human, or calf, or dear. The most prominent dynasty on St. Claudes in Eoffrin, and they have become wealthy despite the islands’ poverty. Their capital is St. Claude’s town on Eagle Island. Now they are self-governing, but they would welcome the patronage of a larger state. Historically, the St. Claude Islands belonged to Caindos in Aorlis or to Narbelle in Arrendos/Grumn.
Most recently they owed allegiance to Aorlis, but their status has fallen into abeyance. They would welcome repatriation with Aorlis for protection and funding. These islands have a continental climate, but the lake effect makes them colder than the surrounding regions. Natives here speak Ostric Aenglik, although many also employ Neuvo Karmithian. The Universal Faith holds sway here, and there are small churches in each village. St. Claudes firmly is embedded in the Fern Maer economy, which includes Parse, Caindos, Norward, Jordrium, and Redby. It exports lumber and pelts, but not in significant quantities. Consequently, these islands are poor.
