Narbelle
This state is a destination for ex-patriots, excommunicates, exiles, and other lost souls. They keep things professional here, and they do not share information with outsiders. Narbelle owes homage to Arrendos. Competing powers would gladly engage in a proxy war to destabilize the region, and a full Aorlis/Arrendos War is never out of the question. This state is currently ruled by Prince Ian FitzEldred, an illegitimate son of Eldred Kolthen (once high-king of Arlium) and Bridgit of Narbelle. Archbishops and barons include Beaumont FitzEldred and Reginald Mathurne (m. Catalina of Narbelle). The capital is Redby City. The country sits on the Fern Maer’s west coast, south of its overlord Arrendos, north of the Nharag Mountains and Caindos, and east of Draut. It has a continental climate, and Narbelle possesses rich resources making it an attractive prize.
Narbelle is part of the Fern Maer economic sphere, which includes Parse, St. Claudes, Jordrium, and more. This country is known for lumber and tin. The native language is Narbelle, an alternate form of Aenglik with many Arrend borrowed words. It is not interchangeable with Aenglik or Arrend, but communication with either country is possible. While open to different religions, Narbelle’s native Church is a polytheistic version of the Universal Faith that plays down Ahiom and names the twelve mayors of the Zodiac as gods. The two religions do not mix well. Narbelle has never been independent. Originally it belonged to Draut, but Grumn claimed it in after the Draut/Grumn War of 444. When Arrendos conquered Grumn, Narbelle came along with it in 821. In 977, Arlium conquered Narbelle, held it for 60 years, and lost it back to Arrendos in 1037.
