Eubrak

Eubrac is a city-state in the southwestern corner of West Karmithia. This city-state is a wealthy prize and if captured, would bring considerable wealth to the Aorlis and the Rhonce. Its borders fluctuate as conditions change in Old Karmithia. Eubrac has an excellent bay and access to Kamith’s Folly Mountains, and this in enough to make it wealthy enough to continue funding its independence. It is firmly rooted Aorlis economic sphere, though it trades (with heavy tariffs) with the HKE too. House Haugh rules here, Miles Haugh the Stout is the sovereign prince, and he has ties through his wife to the Osrick’s in Gwyfned. Eubrac has a rich antiquities market, specializing in the sale of rare manuscripts, but including art and artifacts from classical times. Ebrac’s climate is chaparral in south, where it meets the Arlyndor Sea, and temperate in the north. It is bilingual, with Neuvo Karmithian and Ostric Aenglik both spoken.
A pigeon sailor’s language called Nanglik (aka Neuvo Aenglik) is spoken on her docks and by her sailors. Eubrac belongs to the Universal Faith, but the city-state has retained power and leadership over Church appointments and law. Clerics are also barred from civilian authority. The Church cannot own property here, and may only lease. There is a representation of the HKE’s Eastern Rite Church here, but it’s limited to date. Like the rest of West Karmithia, Eubrac became independent after the Karmithians abandoned it in the 6th century. It soon established itself as a commune, ruled by the Haughs. The Haughs married into the Tancred family in 990, at which time they converted to the Universal Faith. While sincere, this conversion was also conditional. For a while, they were part of the Rhonce. In 1077, Eubrac abandoned its ties with Hexton and the Rhonce and married into the Orlockinas line of the Holy Karmithian Empire. This held until 1181, when Eubrac fought a two-day war with the HKE and became independent again.
