Clans

Clans and tribes could have been treated as ethnic groups or dynasties. These groups are made up of extended families, after all. Instead, I have treated them as factions. Real human endeavors of all sorts defy easy categorization.

Agnarian

This is an independent clan that includes the McStubbe sept. The clan chief holds the title of Count of Mallorn in Karlionne. Agnarians are devoted to forest culture, industry, and lumberjack competitions and festivals. They also are prone to cattle rustling and raiding their neighbors.

Bhraeme

This is a member clan of the McDhuir Confederacy, and it includes the Mclothied sept. The clan chief possesses the title of Count of Glumn in Caindos. The Bhraemes are quick to anger, but quick to forgive. They take pride in their forests and forest industry, and they will go to war to protect thier arboreal homeland.

Buerre

This is a sept of the McFell Clan, and a member sept of the Warnulf Confederacy. The sept chieftain possesses the title of Baron of Bogby and Rindlemenere in Staevin, Noelred. The Buerres are a proud, stiff-necked lot with quick tempers.

Daggett

This is a sept of the Warnulf Clan, and a member sept of the Warnulf Confederacy. The sept chieftain possesses the title of Baron of Elswith and Radbur in Ultimo, Caindos. This sept has flourished in size and wealth, but they have a nasty reputation for necromancy.

Dhagros

This is a sept of the McPhillip Clan, and the sept chieftain holds the title of Baron of Gormden in Devery, Caindos. The Dhagros have a reputation for physical might and stocky builds, and they often win highland games. They also have a habit of gambling.

Ferris

This is a sept of the Trevor Clan, and the sept chieftain possesses the title of Baron of Ogton Vale in Valodic, Noelred. They celebrate viniculture, especially that of white wine. They are more hospitable than the Trevors.

Haylle

This is a sept of the McBailles Clan, and a member sept of the Warnulf Confederacy. The sept chieftain holds the title of Count of Oellstand in Caindos. They are wise in forest lore, and many traditions and tales that allude to their pagan past.  

Kolthan

This is an independent clan, and the clan chief possesses the title of High King of Arlium, the King of Noelred, and the Duke of Kallund. Before modernizing, their name was McKelthen. See more about them in the listing for dynasties.

Langdoine

This is an independant clan, and it includes the Saerral and Withum septs. The clan chief holds the title of Prince of Parse, and it is known for its great wealth and political cunning (and opportunism).

Lewin

This is a sept of the McFuirnam Clan, and the sept chieftain possesses the title of Baron of Ibsoman in Gnilder, Caindos. The Lewins pride themselves for frugality, but others might call them cheap. They are always on the lookout for good deals and easy money.

McAndrum

This is a sept of the Warnulf Clan, and a member sept of the Warnulf Confederacy. The sept chieftain holds the title of Baron of Gayle Falls in Gaalt, Noelred. Similar to the Warnulfs in most ways, the McAndrums are lauded for their music, making them welcome in most lands. This is a large clan.

McArdiac

This is a sept of the McBailles Clan, and a member sept of the Warnulf Confederacy. The clan chief possesses the title of Count of Glimmerstand in Caindos. This clan is financially poor, but they are rich in the second sight and producing talented seers.

McBaille

This is a member clan of the Warnulf Confederacy, and it includes the McArdiak and Haylle septs. The clan chief holds the title of Count of Pent in Draas. This clan is unique because it has combined with the Long Eye tribe of Draas. This group is noteworthy for being both the poorest and fiercest clan, and they are feared. Mercy and kindness are not traits this group holds dear.

McCheathum

This is a sept of the McDhuir Clan, and the sept chief holds no feudal titles. Much like their source clan, but with an added anti-clerical tradition. Violence against clerics and clergy is always possible among the McCheathums.

McDhuir

This clan heads a collective that includes the McDhuir, McFuirnam, and Bhraeme clans and all their septs. The clan McDhuir includes the McCheathum sept, and the clan chief holds the title of Count of Dhurse in Caindos. They have a reputation for being reclusive, and they take pride in foot races and survival training. Give a McDhuir a knife, and he’ll soon be living in relative comfort.

McFell

This is a member clan of the Warnulf Confederacy, and it includes the Buerre sept. The clan chief possesses the title of Duke of Staevin in Noelred. These people are noteworthy for its their longstanding feuds and epic grudges.

McFuirnam

This is a member clan of the McDhuir Confederacy, which includes the Lewin and McNarry septs. The clan chief holds the title of Baron of Dabrieille in Gnilder, Caindos. The McFuirnams are noted for being more worldly, and are involved in trade, arbitrage, and import with the Karmithians (and others) to their east.

McLothied

This is a sept of the Bhraeme Clan, and its sept chieftain holds the title of Baron of Bronborn in Glumn, Caindos. They are noteworthy wardens of the forest, able to make best use of all its resources. They also are steeped in the traditions, tales, and culture of forest life. Like the McNarrys, the McLothieds love all the lumberjack competitions.

McNarry

This is a sept of the McFuirnam Clan, and the sept chief holds no feudal titles. Most McNarry’s work in the forestry industry, and they celebrate forest games, such as logrolling, ax throwing, and tree climbing.

McPennew

This is a sept of Warnulf Clan, and a member sept of the Warnulf Confederacy. The sept chieftain possesses the title of Duke of Gaalt in Noelred. These people are noteworthy rivermen, and are steeped in the river culture, including its tales, music, and traditions.

McPhillip

This is an independent clan, and includes the sept of Dhagros. The clan chief holds the title of Count of Devery in Caindos. This clan loves to fight, and they will happily go anywhere a battle is brewing. When not fighting, they engage in wrestling matches, and challenging all comers.

McStubbe

This is a sept of Agnarian Clan, and the sept chieftain possesses the title of Baron of Barking in Mallorn, Karlionne. They are infamous rustlers, raiders, and thieves.

Trevor

This is an independent clan, and it includes the Ferris sept. The clan chief holds the title of Duke of Valodic, in Noelred. Before modernizing, their clan name was spelled McTreyer. See more about the Trevor’s under dynasties.

Staerral

This is a sept of Langdoine Clan, and the sept chief holds no feudal titles. This family is poor, but they are proud and rigid minded. They specialize in copper mining, though their produce enriches the Langdoines.  

Warnulf

This clan heads a collective of that includes the Warnulf, McBailles, and McFell clans and all their septs. As a clan in its own right, the Warnulf clan includes the McPennew, McAndrum, and Daggett septs. The clan chief possesses the titles of the Duke of Caindos and the Count of Ultimo in Caindos. They are the wealthiest of clans, and quite numerous, and they admire lowlander culture and adopt much of it as their own, yet remain quintessentially Caindosian. They have a tradition of close fighting, combining wrestling and daggers.

Withum

This is a sept of Langdoine Clan, and the sept chief holds no feudal titles. This family has an ancient tradition of mariners on the inland waters thereabouts. They also are noted artisans, skilled in carving and limning.
