Civil and Social Orders
Esquire of Gwyfned City
Called the Honorable Order of Esquire of Gwyfned, their patron is the mayor of Gwyfned City, and their patron saint is Hugh. Based in Gwyfned City, in the kingdom of Gwyfned, in the High Kingdom of Myddum, they have a dedicated chapel in the Cathedral. This is a social and ceremonial, non-military order, usually granted for outstanding legal, bureaucratic, or wealth-based service to the mayor or the city. Inductees are university graduates, merchant princes, and successful lawyers. Member benefits include social prestige in Gwyfned, high-level economic networking, free entry to Upper City, and pardons for all past civil penalties and warrants in the city. There are 48 members, no supernumerary members, and three ranks within the group. Their livery is simple chains worn around the neck, with one, two, or three lockets based on the member’s rank. The Esquire’s crest is two crossed quills under an escallop on a field of sable.Gentlemen of Halwin
Called the Most Sacrosanct Chivalric Order of the Blessed St. Halwin, this order is based in Hempton, its patron is the Palatine Duke of Hempton, and its patron saint is Halwin. This group exists for economic networking, and for social prestige in Hempton. They never have made pretensions to being a military organization, or anything but what they are, and conversely this has elevated their reputation. Their mission is good works, community building, and church repair, with the additional elements of non-military ceremonial fellowship.
Enrollment numbers are not limited, and the officers include a commander, a lieutenant commander, a treasurer, a chamberlain, and brother gentlemen for all other members. Entry into the order usually is limited to gentle or noble blooded men, but mayors, powerful aldermen, rich yeomen, and merchants have all been inducted. Great wealth or success will usually get Hempton natives invited in. Their livery is royal blue, and their crest is a bull’s head, erased in azure, on a field of or and azure. They maintain a dedicated chapel in Idorn Cathedral.
