Burlam Geography

Topology—this region’s coast is flat. In some places it has generous,sandy beaches,and in others it has high limestone scarps facing the sea, and rolling dunes between the scarps and the shore.
  • Elevation—the Western Coastlands are about 500’ to 1000’ above sea level along its rocky coast,slowly rising to about 2000’ to 3000’ as the land rises toward the Aendril Mountains in the east.
  •   Climate—Oceanic, but hot and dry in its lower third. Prevailing, northeasterly winds blow in from the Corlin Ocean,carrying warm,moist air. The climate varies little on the coast; it is cool and humid,with a salty sea breeze blowing in by day,and a warm land breeze blowing back out to sea by night. The western ports of Aorlis,because of the North Corlin Drift,never freeze over.
  • Weather—The region enjoys moderate rainfall, Reapingmonth being the wettest. In the summer, thunderstorms are common,and tornados are possible. Mistrals are chilly winds that sometimes blow down from the mountains.
  •   Flora—Many fragrant plants grow here, used in the manufacture of perfume and cologne, such as poppies and roses.
