Bandit Brotherhoods

Ghosts, Brotherhood of

Known for their stealth and masterful forest wisdom, these bandits are experts at surprise, ambush, secret trackways, and even tunnel systems to come and go secretly. They are so good at it that most believe this is accomplished with conjury, not cleverness. It is unknown where their base of operations is, but their geographical range includes Eofwin, Baelric, Arlium, and Draas at large. Thier organization is cellular, with no single command structure. While not every member can master it, the group uses a secret language of bird calls to coordinate their movements. Their banner is a spectral skeleton, wrapped in his rotting shroud.

Misfits, Brotherhood of

The semi-legendary band of thieves is based in the southern Halsjarr Mountains in a secret stronghold just outside Aorlis. This group is manned exclusively by liminal of unusual people, and all society’s rejects. Its ranks include cambions, half ogres, many oppressed and ostracised people, and many one-of-a-kind beings. Their operations extend to the Baelrics and areas north of Aorlis, and they use the Aorlisian border as an escape zone. Their traditional leader is Merold the Confounder, and while stories have conflated these three men into one character, it in reality has been two brothers and then a son consecutively. Merold has been happy to continue the single character narrative, and uses his combined reputation to great effect. The misfits live as outlaws, though they have hired on as mercenaries when the price (and cause) is right. Members of this community exhibit a close, family-like connection, and deep bonds of loyalty. Their banner is a zephyr, although the origin of this choice is unclear.

Raw Boned Brotherhood

Also called the Brotherhood of Shadows, the Raw Boned Brotherhood operates out of the Malkorl Forest and is active in Caindos and Karlionne. They extensively use caves as bases, and these are always well-hidden. They are experts at covering their tracks, and cannot easily be tracked. The Raw Bones are reputed to include half ogres, ogres, and feral cynocephalus in their ranks, but the majority are human outlaws. They have developed their own sign language to communicate with each other, and a system of secret forest markings to leave messages or instructions behind. Their banner is a bloody, dancing skeleton with a sword.

Sky Brotherhood

Thought to have begun as some sort of pagan resistance or underground, this group has lost most of its religious orientation and become a bandit brotherhood. Most members belong to the Faith, but pagan sympathies still exist within this group. They operate within the Marcelle at large, but most notably Blackvale. These are forest bandits, living in trees, caves, hollows, and secret shelters. This brotherhood maintains a doggerel variant of the otherwise forgotten Old Tongue, or West Kaelthic language, for coded communication. Their crest is the eagle-like alerion, although no one alive remembers why they adopted this symbol.
