Kredaix
A friendly and sophisticated arachnomorphic species that joined the Galactic Enforcement Agency seven centuries ago. The original Kredaix resembled enormous, sapient arthropods (most commonly compared by humans to spiders) in a variety of sizes and shapes. The Thaal uplifted them after they discovered Altspace transmission.
After contact and genetic comingling with Humans, Kredaix biodiversity increased dramatically. There are now countless varieties of Kredaix, each with different mixes of human and spider-like characteristics. However, the one thing that remains is their three-stage lifecycle.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Most Kredaix have four pairs of jointed legs, a body divided into three segments (head, thorax, abdomen), eight eyes, silk-production capability, pedipalps and hair covering their body. Beyond this, they exhibit a great deal of diverse morphology, as Kredaix interbreeding with Humans has gone on for centuries.
Genetics and Reproduction
Kredaix evolved to reproduce sexually from a very early stage in their development. Males are usually smaller than females, and fertilize the female internally. After fertilization the female lays thousands of eggs. Of these eggs, the vast majority hatch smaller demi-kredaix that do not grow to full size or become sapient, but the handful that do eventually grow to formthe next generation.
Human males are capable of fertilizing Kredaix females, and Kredaix females can oviposit their eggs into human females. This life cycle has become widely accepted and granted the Kredaix opposable thumbs and other valuable genetic traits.
Growth Rate & Stages
Kredaix that hatch from coccoon-laid eggs resemble large spiders upon birth, albeit with subtle differences. Kredaix birth from human mothers appear as hybrid infants. While each variety will forever appear more similar to its birth mother, they do undergo similar life cycles.
During the nymph stage, Kredaix most closely resemble humans with arachnid characteristics. Their exoskeleton and hair are soft, their mouths mostly humanoid, and while they still have multiple arachnid arms and eyes, their throax and abdomen are close to a human's physique.
In the naiad stage, the legs become longer, the abdomen swells, pedipalps become more developed, and the effect is that of a humanoid thorax/head and a spider's abdomen.
Finally, in the broodmother stage, the Kredaix grows to enormous size, while the thorax and head remain roughly the same.
Ecology and Habitats
The Kredaix evolved in the forests and caverns of their humid homeworld. Swarms of insectoid creatures are their natural prey. Their ability to climb makes them prefer highly vertical habitats and structures.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Kredaix are natural carnivores. Hybrid Kredaix can be omnivorous.
