Lucifer Character in The Garden that Burned | World Anvil

Lucifer

Brief Overview

The fallen servant of Geodea Geodea and self-proclaimed god of torment and punishment. Lucifer is feared all across Eden by those who are good or evil alike. Known as the servant who rose to divinity, few cross him intentionally.

General Overview

Lucifer and the Witch of Winds, later known as Rizza, investigated and then cleared the realm of Hell in order for Lucifer to reign over it as his newfound divine domain. Once complete, the witch left and later returned with a human refugee named Lilith. She decided to remain in Hell with Lucifer whereas the witch took her leave. In exchange for sanctuary, Lucifer had Lilith birth him his Pit Fiends and several different subspecies of hellish creatures before she left with no intent of returning.
Now that he had an army he decided he would choose 7 mortals who resemble principles that opposed Geodea's 7 Virtues and crown them as lords of each respective layer of Hell. Now he leads his realm with capable killers, prepared to punish all those he deems guilty...

Artifacts

The Forbidden Dagger- an intricate dagger-like Branch carved from a branch from the tree of knowledge (Forbidden fruit tree).

Forsaken Flames- large candles made from a true Forsakens horn, lit with an infernal flame. These are commonly used for judging between the guilty and the innocent, but they do have other less specified uses. It is said that if a Forsaken flame is broken it's true owner, The Forsaken it was gifted from, will hunt down all parties involved in it's breaking.

Contract Quills- These are specially prepared forgiven feathers dipped in Lucifer's own inkwell (no one knows what's in it, but most assume it's severely tainted blood as it's the only known substance that is able to stain a Forgivens feather black). These quills allow Forsaken or in some cases, chosen Forsaken children, to make deals in Lucifer's name. Once a deal has been made, only the final signature holder may relinquish the contract.

Marked Blades- Typically a dagger but is sometimes a short sword or tailored blade, these Marked blades are used as the main weapon of all Forsaken children. The only time they are allowed to use any other weapon is if they're forced to slay an innocent (self-defence, Mercy kill, quarantine, etc...) as slaying an innocent with a marked blade binds the user to the blade in an unfortunate manner. As penance the user is expected to continue to punish the guilty but now the marks will also appear carved into the user. The blades are used to atone the guilty and with each successful punishment the blades handle is given a carved mark.
Once the entire hilt is filled with carves in it, the user requests a sermon at the golden shrine to have the carvings filled in with gold. This signifies the beauty of their services (You cannot rise above Ashen acolyte or Traveler of torment without a filled in blade). Once their hilt is filled in, the blade and the Forsaken child who owns it is renamed and this name can now be submitted in for the Ritual of rising, allowing them to rise among the ranks and they would then be granted the title of patron punisher. With this title they can enter any travelers group and assume full command, no questions asked. Although, sometimes they butt heads if more than one Forsaken child has a filled in Blade.

The Philosophers Stone- Supposedly forged in Lucifer's lair in the deepest bowels of hell, the Philosopher's Stone is said to whisper Lucifer's will to anyone who possesses it. The beliefs of The Forsaken children are that Lucifer is testing the bearer of the stone, at first by preaching sin, then by driving them to perform their darkest desires (usually crime related). Considering the fact that anyone who holds the stone, even Forsaken children, are driven mad the Forsaken children think that only by holding the stone and overcoming Lucifer's beckons can the curse on the stone be lifted, granting its user unlimited power and Lucifer's blessings.

Seven Sigils- Each of the sigils are carved out of Tarite, hollowed out, filled with Mercury, and hundreds of needle like spines are coated inside of the mercury at its center. These are each carved with a sigil of the associated sin and have a questionable trigger mechanism that seems to cause these needles to randomly prick the users. This has been known to trigger the user to present symptoms of anything ranging from sicknesses to an eventual spiral into madness. A well-guarded secret of the Forsaken children is that each sigil allows you to one free pass (safe walk) through the corresponding layer of Hell, meaning no Forsaken or Sin will try to harm you so long as you bear the correct sigil. Additionally, these sigils seem to be able to harm both The Forsaken and the Forgiven, specifically the Sins and the Virtues.

Taken Feathers- Every Forsaken child dreams of possessing their own taken feather, the problem is you are never permitted to buy one. You can only take one, plucked from a living Forgiven by your own hand. It is otherwise forbidden to even touch a Forgivens feather (bad vibes man) If, however, a Forsaken child is able to obtain their own it is brought to a Tombsmith and taken to be forged into the Forsaken child's marked blade in secrecy. Now allowing that Forsaken child to effectively harm the Fateless (immortal beings) with their marked blades.

Ashkept Talismans- These are keepsake talismans filled with the ashes of those held dear to the Forsaken children. They are made from Synth Stone, hollowed out and engraved to look like wingless, horned forsaken (To resemble their true future self). Each time a Forsaken child's loved one dies, they're burial right is performed and their ashes are divided and stored in the Ashkept talismans of all they were dearest to.

Bleeding Stones- A cracked, palm size stone that appears to be steadily bleeding. They can only be found in the Devil's mouth and are supposedly gifted by Lucifer himself. Many keep their bleeding Stone once it's been received due to the fact that legend has it on the day that your stone stops bleeding, you die.

Scarlet Journal- Special journals that for 2 months before a Forsaken child's grouping set, they are told to bloodlet a little into a basin each set until they have filled it. They are then handed their journal sleeve (casing) and told to soak it in their own blood until grouping set, at which point their journal is bound and given to them and they are told to write their life in this journal as well as to record their kills. (Used in trials versus fallen Forsaken children.)
