Layla Cerost Character in The Garden that Burned | World Anvil

Layla Cerost

First Mate

Brief Overview

Layla Cerost was a witch who lived in the late 1900's BN. This were dangerous times for spellcasters, but Layla had a way with words, allowing herself to talk her way aboard damn near any ship she pleased.

General Overview

Layla used her magic to protect the ships she boarded. She could cast up to 3rd level spells, but she was great at destroying attacking pirates. This no longer became neccissary when she boarded the The Maiden of Menra. Captain Janson Saltz was more than capable of making sure pirates never saw the ship, and this left Layla time to build morale with the crew. Unfortunately, Layla was considered "lost at sea" and labled as deceased by the The Empire of Menra after they lost all contact. Now, the only time Layla can be seen is in fleeting moments her ship passes an unwary travelers path. Many believe she made it back aboard the Maiden of Menra, but not with her life. It's now considered a ghost ship and its advised by most kingdoms not to approach the Maiden if it's seen...

Mental characteristics

Taboos

Layla hated being on land. She often made jokes and remarked about how she only had sea legs and how it was worse to be landsick. She'd avoid touching down at all costs, often saying that she'd guard the ship while the crew shopped. No one knows why she had such an aversion to land, but after her final voyage she will remain forever at sea.
