The Chop Shop

Located on the toren world Mayhem, the Chop Shop is a former arcology structure now transformed into a giant industrial complex, the largest of many scattered across the planet to process the catches of feral drones brought in by hunting parties.

Purpose / Function

When torens arrived at Mayhem under the leadership of then-Scavlord Deff Killaton during the Interstellar Dark Ages, they found it in ruins. The planet, once known as Independence, had been an Americanist world hit hard by relativistic kill vehicles, wiping out its civilization. It was then overrun by hordes of feral drones to the point where survivors elsewhere in the system refused to land on or even approach it.
Scavlord Killaton, however, saw an opportunity. He led his clan, the Doomkopfs, to the surface and began hunting the ferals with the intent of pulling them apart for valuable parts with which to establish a society and begin trading offworld. To that end, he required a large processing facility, and the Chop Shop was born.
It is located in what used to be a megacity capable of housing hundreds of millions of people, before it was smashed to ruins in the Age of Strife and then progressively scavenged and deconstructed by torens to build their settlements. Resembling a giant flat-topped pyramid with gas venting out night and day, the Chop Shop towers over the surrounding landscape.

Alterations

While the structure retains its core supports and general human-scale architecture, its toren residents have overhauled it as an industrial-grade processing facility. A spacious atrium on the lower levels was transformed into a giant pit to hold drone scrap for sorting, claws overhead reaching down to grab fistfuls and carry it off as needed. Other areas contain workshops, testing labs, and fusion smelters to vaporize any unwanted components into their constituent elements. Deff Killaton's office is located high above the main pit, overlooking its operations, and much of the upper levels has been converted into the Doomkopfs' headquarters.
Airships and ground vehicles arriving from the planet's hunting grounds dump their catches in large hoppers and piles outside, which feed conveyor belts into the facility's maw. Refurbished components and completed devices leave the Chop Shop in neat boxes, bound for local markets and shipment into space. The grounds outside have been progressively expanded with more and more holding areas and landing pads.

Architecture

In the course of around three hundred years of operation, the Chop Shop has taken on the traditional organized-chaos appearance of toren engineering, with new expansions and components added on in a manner which is somehow haphazard and yet still functional. Notable for a toren structure, much of it still retains human-height ceilings, though often with cables, piping, and lights added in what is, from a four-foot uplifted raccoon's perspective, extra empty space.

History

The Chop Shop has served as the primary processing facility and base of operations for the Doomkopfs scavenging clan for around three hundred metric years. From time to time, other clans have been allowed to process their catches of feral drones at it when spare capacity opens up.
