Nuclear Weapons

Weapons which obtain their destructive power from nuclear fission or fusion.
Many a species gets its first introduction to existential risk when it invents nuclear weapons.
The basic design of atomic warheads has not changed much since the Nuclear Dark Days of industrial Terra, most consist of a fissile pit surrounded by explosives to compress it inwards to critical mass, and sometimes a secondary fusion stage below to create a thermonuclear weapon.
