Whispering Isle
The Whispering Isle is an island in Meridian's Great Sea, the body of water around which human habitation of the planet is centered. Prior to Meridian's recontact legends arose which held it to be haunted, and few sailors dared to venture close, much less make a landing. The Meridian Expedition visited it in their effort to stop Caesar Dulane.
Also on the island was a sizable population of gene-tweaked dilophosaurs, identified by Rachel Klayton (the expedition's dinosaur expert) as dilophosaurus crichtonis. This is not a faithful recreation of a real prehistoric species, but instead an altered version which was smaller, sported a neck frill like a lizard, and could spit caustic venom. These dilophosaurs appeared to inhabit most of the island but were unknown off of it, suggesting perhaps that the Keepers intended to distribute them but never got around to it before their Fall.
The presence of the dilophosaurs caused the Meridian Expedition to write off the Whispering Isle as a potential location for a Druza Freeholds naval base, though they did manage to discover a Keeper communications hub and witness a conversation between Caesar Dulane and Tactacmolec.
History
As the expedition discovered, the Whispering Isle was a facility where the Keepers raised their dinosaurs prior to shipping them out during the initial stages of Meridian's ecological engineering. As a means of keeping the prying eyes of their test subjects away from the island, the Keepers installed a series of infrasound emitters as a defense system. The sound produced by these devices triggers a feeling of intense dread in humans and sets up resonances in their eyeballs which cause phantom images of dark, monster-like shapes. It is this which is probably responsible for generating the rumors of hauntings and evil magic. Also on the island was a sizable population of gene-tweaked dilophosaurs, identified by Rachel Klayton (the expedition's dinosaur expert) as dilophosaurus crichtonis. Geography
The island is a few square kilometers in size, big enough to house paddocks for large dinosaurs such as sauropods and Tyrannosaurs. There is also an operations building (where the controls for the infrasound system are located) and subterranean infrastructure including tunnels and a geodesic dome containing the communications hub.
